Re: sad day in sooter land part 2

Sympathies, dude. I have a friend locally who has the worst scooter karma I've ever seen. He also has an affinity for previously-well-thrashed bikes that are one tire in the grave upon acquisition. If there is a weakness in a motor, he'll find it. His record for killing an engine is 20 minutes. You'...

Re: One of these things is not like the other

That honda express is a sleeper, i have a rare malossi 65cc bore + wildlion pipe, its a spree killer  d*** near any moped can be made into a Spree killer (except maybe Benellis and Betas...even Batavuses are goin' fast now). Seen the Wildlion stuff on Treats before too, so not as rare as you...

Very true. The Sprees have a three-shoe clutch, but Honda changed up to a two-shoe on the Elite E. Lot more pad material.

Re: AX24 belt on 88 Elite E

Funny, I was just pursuing this issue... The Dayton AX24 belt measures (according to Grainger...) 5/16" deep, or .3125" inches. I just received a Goodyear AX24 in the mail today, saw this thread, and measured the depth with a set of calipers; it measured between .335" and .340" o...

Re: 93 Honda Elite 80 Help!!

Check compression. Check the bystarter, it's similar to the one that the 2Ts use. Check the intake manifold for cracks or cuts cause by rubbing against the cooling shroud. Later model CH80s have a metal collar around the manifold to protect it, but it may have been left out at one point.

this is a 49cc forum= another idiot :surprise: Thanks for smellin' that one out, dog. We knew you were good for something... This question is very similar to one recently asked on the MSG forum. The consensus was that it probably wouldn't work. Still, this question isn't totally invalid; the forum ...

My sig is comprehensive, but it's missing a '71CB500F, a '74 Z1A, an '80 GS750, a '77 Ciao PX, an '85 Elite 80 and an '84 CV80 Riva.

Re: Aero 80 Heat Controlled Carb/Choke (bystarter)

Wheelman asked, I wonder if the Aero's Electric bystarter was Honda-san's '85 answer to issues encountered with the heat-controlled choke system? Did any earlier scooters than the '84 Spree have them? The '81-'82 Express SR has that goofy vaccum rig. It's controlled by a vaccum switch with a bimetal...

Re: Clutch springs - what do i have here?

Doesn't the color code specify how many RPMs the new spring takes up above the stock spring's take-up speed? A yellow 3K would make more sense then if your stock spring hooks up around 2K. Idle on these 50cc Hondas is about 1800, so ~2K could be a reasonable assumption for a stock spring. Yellow wou...

Dude, that's a cherry Newport! Working on one for a friend, I'll have to show him these pics.

The Maxi N is really clean too!

You've seen my '78 Pinto, my current money pits are the '71 FailCiao and a '78 Maxi Sport Mk. II, the latter being a total wreck.

Re: spree variator

...the 3 roller vari i picked up yesterday... It doesn't happen to be a PA50I variator, does it? If so, Graham Motzig has a good write-up on how to "notch" that unit for greater variation. As for the rear pulley, I haven't dismantled one yet, but I know it can be expanded. Maybe it just n...

Check this one out. 82.5mm OD, pretty small: http://www.treatland.tv/honda-hobbit-variator-p/stock-honda-variator.htm The Motobecane variator might be viable too: https://www.1977mopeds.com/product/1709/Motobecane-Complete-Stock-Variator/ I'd look for the 4-ball model over the 3-ball for better tuna...
