Re: 87 Spree, Top Speed 20MPH

I confirmed the correct answer when I reconnected the hose and it started running crappy again (15-20 mph and very *) then loosened it again (33mph, smooth as a baby's butt!)

Re: 87 Spree, Top Speed 20MPH

Sure thing...the advice about checking the clutch and exhaust were definitely helpful...but ultimately i think not having the air filter cover was the culprit...and i actually fixed it accidentally. While taking pieces off to check the clutch and exhaust, I inadvertently knocked loose the plastic co...

Re: 87 Spree, Top Speed 20MPH

Okay, I guess I'll have to break down and buy the filter cover...I'm really not a cheap person, but $15 for a little piece of plastic seems kinda ridic to me..oh well...I'm pretty sure the belt is okay since it's brand new, but I'll double check that it's not slipping. I have no clue about the clutc...

Re: How do I clean the rust out of my gas tank

I did pretty much the same thing as Taz...I removed the gas tank and sprayed an entire bottle of Gunk into it, then took a butt-load of nuts and bolts and threw them in, different shapes and sizes. Make sure you put enough nuts and bolts to create some weight, that way when you shake it up you're cr...

Re: 87 Spree Won't Idle

Also, do you guys know the correct settings for the carb adjustment screws? I believe one is related to air and one is related to gas, but other than that, I'm not sure which one is which  I'm sure the mechanic will be able to tweak them for me properly, but I'd def like to know for my own...

Re: 87 Spree Won't Idle

Thanks much for the quick replies...I will definitely take these suggestions into consideration. I have since found out that my petcock assembly is bad, and my bystarter (byster?) is missing the needle valve, which basically means I need the whole thing (I'm told)...I found both parts brand new on e...

87 Spree Won't Idle

Quick Background: My brother gave me his 87 spree which has been sitting in a shed for about 15 years. I have basically cleaned everything - removed rust from gas tank using gunk + nuts/bolts, installed new fuel lines, cleaned carburetor, took wire brush to flywheel/magneto, new gas & oil, new ...
