Re: Aero NH80 Float filling with gas
Not sure about Australian models but 83 - 85 U.S. NH80s do not have electric bystarter. Look at parts fiche - carb diagram shows small air filter which vents carb fuel rail on back of carb and auto choke. Cylinder diagram shows autochoke mounted on cylinder with 3 hoses. As far as checking the opera...

Re: Engine Low Power, Bogs Down When Accelerating Hard
Doesn't sound like cdi. Petcock, fuel filter, fuel tank cap, and carb needle valve control fuel flow. Carb flooding very common, especially if petcock is original. New petcock and polished needle seat usually correct it. Expect some fluttering at full throttle, especially if it's an 83-84. Some say ...

Re: loss of power after 10 miles
The petcock and carb needle valve work together to level out fuel flow. While you're waiting on petcock, get out a drill, q-tip, and metal polish or toothpaste, and clean that needle seat.
Good luck

Re: loss of power after 10 miles
I've found this brand to be reliable as far as size listed - 14mm.

Re: loss of power after 10 miles
If it's the original peacock, sounds like the problem. Believe it's the 14mm - eBay aftermarket is touch and go - I've got an extra for an 85 with a filter if you need it. Probably should polish the needle valve seat in the carb also to keep fuel level in bowl stable. Make sure fuel cap vent isn't b...

Re: 85 spree - front wheel wobbles
Might be worth a quick check of the tire beads to make sure they are seated properly - that can definitely cause a wobble

I believe the 3rd wire is normally for the warning light which some scoots have.

83/84 NH80 throttle needle vs. 85
Hi all, I've had several 83/84 NH80's and they all had to be feathered at WOT. I also had one 85 NH80 and it was significantly better. From what I've read, for 85 the throttle needle was changed to improve the situation. I am currently working on an 85 but I do not have the throttle needle for it - ...

Re: Oil pump delete/oil reservoir removal
Rather than "deleting" the oil tank, seems like I read that folks use it to carry oil for mixing at the pump. If you could run a line from the tank to an on/off valve that is easily accessible, then you could just carry your 4 oz measuring container and have plenty of oil whenever needed.

Turn radius safety question
Hi all, noticed that my frame has a little damage and allows the front wheel to turn a little further to the right than intended. I have no experience with this and not sure how concerned I should be - is this a safety issue?

Leaky 83 NH80 carb again
Hi all, got a low mileage 83 NH80 I've been trying to get running again. Same problems most seem to have - carb floods, petcock sticks open, and choke control assembly not having full range of motion when fully hot or cold. After soaking overnight, the petcock and choke are functioning properly - af...

Re: NH80 - Removing drive gear for crank seal replacement
Thanks - good project for social distancing. I'll get there but having the same problems as always with these 83 - 84 NH80's. Almost impossible to polish the seat enough to seal and keep the carb fuel level below the top of the bowl and the control assembly/by-starter/choke which has to be cleaned a...

Re: NH80 - Removing drive gear for crank seal replacement
I did ask him about it, and as he was showing me how to make a slide hammer oil seal remover out of a screwdriver, he explained that it would go back on fairly easily. I used a ceiling fan tube to knock it back on without needing a lot of force and it is working fine. Are you gonna chastise me about...

Re: NH80 - Removing drive gear for crank seal replacement
Well, I worked on it for 2 days - tried heat and 3 different pullers but nada. Started making some calls to find someone to do it for me and ended up with a recommendation for 2 guys who work on these old 2 strokes in Lawrenceville, GA. About 30 mins out of Atlanta, back in the woods on a hill off t...
