Re: Sucking wind
It does seat correctly with the clamp at the top. I may switch it and try it again although with it running now I am somewhat hestitant to mess with it too much more. Guess I'll just write down current settings so I can go back. This is an 87 Spree and I can't say it is the original carb although I ...

Re: Sucking wind
Sorry for the poor cell pictures but here are shots of where the bystarter sits in. See how the screw locations are above the lower rim causing the oring not to seal at the bottom? http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx170/wclawler/Bystarter/0404101522a.jpg http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx170/wc...

Re: Sucking wind
Dear god, man. Push that bystarter in there proper, twist it if you have to, another 1/8 inch or so. No screw threads should be visible. The metal bracket goes on the uppermost bit on the bystarter body, you're leaking air and running lean! Fix yesterday! Wait, does the clamp go like in the picture...

Re: Sucking wind
Actually, mine kind of looks like that anyway. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow. I believe the section facing the camera in that picture is lower on my carb.

Got my 87 spree running today (again) today but it is still not right. I have to run it with the air/fuel mixture screw screwed all the way in and one of the air inlets in the air box plugged. I have one lead right now - the bystarter. Is that supposed to sit down tight? I thought I read on here tha...

Spree tuning
Got my 87 spree all cleaned up and ready to put together. Did a thorough carb cleaning (I think- soaked it for days and blew the heck out of it with the big compressor at work) and have it running pretty well except.... It seems to be running lean. I can get it to run pretty nicely if I plug one of ...

If you do part out the Elite, I am interested int the turn signals. I have 2 87 Elites that will be the next projects after I get my Spree going. I am in Hershey, PA.

I had the same question. PO removed the rack and I wound up with one extra ground wire.

Re: Questions re: bystarter clip placement and bystarter O-rings
I have my new-to-me bystarter in hand (thanks Greg) and will install it soon. Are there any best practices. On the old one the brass cylinder by the needle was stuck in the carb. I will clean both with carb cleaner and was thinking about putting dielectric grease around the top o-ring. Anything else...

Auto bystarter help

I was able to get it out without causing more damage however when I get a new bystarter and install it how do I make sure the new one doesn't ge...

Sorry, still learning the terminology. The needle was off the bottom of the auto bystarter.

Muffler (and other) questions
Last fall I picked up a Spree. I messed with it a little but didn't do much. Last night I got a bit more serious with it. I cleaned the carb and got it to idle decently but it dies when I give it any gas. I had noticed in the past when I got it start it would blow some fluid out. I pulled the muffle...
