Re: 1986 Honda Spree with no electrical power
PROBLEM SOLVED. Ok, we'll I did a test on the starter relay and it passed continuity when I applied 12-volts so it is good. After that I went to checking the starter with a volt meter and while I was checking it and turning the key on several times I noticed my rear brake light wouldn't light up any...

Re: 1986 Honda Spree with no electrical power
Yes, it kick starts just fine. I would like to utilize the starter since I'd rather push the button than kick start it. The battery is fine and has 13.7v so I'm just trying to figure out if the relay or starter is bad......all connections look good.

No, this is on right side of bike and I held this relay in my hand and it clicked when I pushed the starter button.

Re: 1986 Honda Spree with no electrical power
Well, I did mess with the fuse you are talking about (it was good) and I even cleaned the ends of the fuse along with the connectors and the brake light did come on. However, when I went to crank it electrically something clicked once like a relay or something (not the starter) and the rear light di...

1986 Honda Spree with no electrical power
Went to start it (electrically) and it has no power so I thought I'd charge the battery. Checked battery and was fully charged...then I noticed that the headlight, brake lights, horn.......nothing would light up at all when I turned the key on and turned it to "run". I did not try kick sta...

that was my next step if I failed this last time........I would have been done with it. Good luck.CharlotteSpreeRider wrote:I'm hoping you nailed it with the carb! My problem is carb too, but I'm getting a refurb rather than fooling with the stupid thing myself.

PAY DIRT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:peace: Well, I tested the petcock one more time before I pulled the carb and all was well with it. I pulled the carb and polished the float seat again really well with a q-tip and a bit of toothpaste (Colgate  ) and even bent the part where the float needle sits (just a tiny bit even though ...

Re: Carb leaking problem.....STILL!!!!
If it makes you feel any better, I pretty much am battling the exact same problem. This weekend I am going to pull the carb off and resurface (polish) the seat area since I already have a new float needle. I will try the test to blow through where the fuel comes in and see if the needle seals off t...

Re: Carb leaking problem.....STILL!!!!
When I got my spree in early Oct. 09 and it had a nail in the overflow tube to keep it from leaking, that may be a quick fix to keep it from leaking while you get the problem sorted. That trick by the previous owner could have been just for the time of sale. I wouldn't want that in my garage. With ...

Re: Carb leaking problem.....STILL!!!!
How can I tell that the float is lifting enough with the fuel in the bowl that it is shutting off the fuel to the bowl?? WIsh that thing was clear so you could see! There is a carb float level spec service manual spec of 12.2 +/- 1mm (0.48 +/- 0.04"). Make a level gauge with clear tubing on th...

Re: Carb leaking problem.....STILL!!!!
One thing that will cause repeated grunge up the petcock and needle is if filter screen in the tank is missing or damaged. Some guys drop in an inline filter when the screen missing. I feel a good tank screen should always be there. Without it the fuel system can loose it's safety factor - in that ...

Re: Carb leaking problem.....STILL!!!!
Greetings: No need to give up. Faulty petcock seal and leaky float valve is a common Aero/Spree/Elite double-whammy. It makes sense that the conditions causing one to fail will also affect the other. The petcock sometimes sorts itself out with fresh fuel and/or a capful of Sea Foam, in my direct ob...

Re: Carb leaking problem.....STILL!!!!
Apply vacuum on vacuum line and see if fuel flows....and stops when vauum stops. If it passes that test it should be good to go, right? Correcto mundo!! Well, I did the test I mentioned and it passed it......HOWEVER.......I rode it for about 15 minutes, parked it and it is still leaking a bit when ...

Re: Carb leaking problem.....STILL!!!!
Greetings: I suggest you plug a clean line to the vacuum port and briefly apply vacuum a few times to see if: A: Fuel flows as it should when vacuum is applied, and 2: Fuel flow stops when vacuum is released. If it passes those tests, you may be good to go. so basically......reinstall petcock, hook...
