Re: Universal Carb? Manual Cable Choke? Express SR & Others

Breaze, thank you very much for that post. I was thinking along those lines and now that it's been validated, I want to try it on mine. I'll let you know how it goes? It may be a couple weeks til I get back to it.

Thanks. I'll pull it apart and take pictures. I'm hopping someone's crossed this bridge before.

Universal Carb? Manual Cable Choke? Express SR & Others

Hi folks, I've had lots of various 2 stroke Honda 50s and those ByStarters seem to always have issues. My latest acquisition is an Express SR that's really clean, but it has carb issues. On this model, the bystarter is thermally reactive and attaches to the cylinder and seems to be giving the bike t...

Comes around, Goes Around

So, I sold all my scooters, but always keep my eyes out for a deal. Saw a great deal on an '84 Aero and had to buy it. Once I got home I confirmed, it was one of my old ones I'd sold a couple years ago. Seems the pesky choke issues made it a hard starter so in 2 years it only got 100 more miles. Unf...

Bad Petcock, challenged Needle

While technically the Needle's job is to hold back the gas, it doesn't take much to overcome it's shut-off capabilities. I'd do a quick check of the petcock by removing the line going to the carb (not the vacuum line) and if it flows freely, just buy a new petcock and see if your problem goes bye by...

Re: 85 Aero 50 HELP!!!!

Been there done that, I just sold 2 virgin Aero scoots. When the guy did the carb rebuild, he probably overlooked the super-minute pinhole orifice in the bowl that feeds the bystarter (cold-start) system. This is easy to do as I've rebuilt lots of carbs and never had to deal with the bowl. My bet is...

Scooter Hauler

Not exactly a scooter, but I built this rack to haul my scoots to the beach. It's solid!

Re: 1983 Aero 50 hard start when cold

I've got two '83s and they both have this problem. One though, after riding it more frequently, the problem seems to be subsiding. Either way, when you clean the carb, note the pinhole orifice in the float bowl, and the emulsion tube that just presses in the carb under the mainjet. These are both ea...

I'll try this.

Re: '83 Aero Choke HELP!!

Oh this is interesting. The only thing the same of the carbs is the float. The castings are completely different and one screws in via a big ring nut and one's held in by 2 small screws(wrong one I just bought online (eBay listed for an '84). The carb in my '83 is PERFECT. The problem is the Bystart...

'83 Aero Choke HELP!!

My '83 Aero 50 is beautiful. It runs fantastic and has less than 1000 miles. The only problem is the darn choke. I bought a carb from an '84 and it's different. Anyone got any ideas how I can solve this? I've meticulously cleaned the carb including the bowl orifices. I'm thinking I need to retrofit ...

Making White Right

Hi folks, Don't know how it happened, but somehow I'm the proud owner of yet another '85 Spree scooter. This one's a fairly clean white one (I need a seat for it though) except it is missing all the stickers. I'm curious, were the stickers (and seat) on the white ones blue or black or something else...

Re: Plastic Resto..

I sprayed my pink scooters with Pledge (seat gauges, hand controls, mirrors and turnsignals, rubber bits etc.) and let it soak in over night. Then I used Color Restorer making a point to stay clear of the decals. Then I wiped her all down to get the chemicals off, used a quality cleaner wax, then to...

My gut feeling is his Bystarter is not doing its thing properly - if it's even still there.

Re: How much should I pay for this part??

It's a supply and demand thing. I just paid $75 for a red OEM petcock cover because it was worth it to me to have it. Had I known they'd be being remade I'd rather have that now, but at the time it was worth it to me.
