Possible leaking oil pump? Strange running/starting (spree)

Hello, been away for a while. I recently (few months back) Did a rebuild on the spree engine. Stock piston/rings, hone, new gaskets. The machine runs well, once I get it started. Here's the issue I have: If the machine sits for any time longer than say two days, it's very hard to start. The longer i...

Re: Premix and oil injection for 44mm BBK?(i searched)

It was 1.5 turns out before with the 85, but ran the same 2 turns out also. I'll try covering 1 hole at a time, just to see what happens. Thanks

Re: Premix and oil injection for 44mm BBK?(i searched)

I'm going to take things one step at a time, reporting back. That should best suit the situation. I installed the 90 jet, changed nothing else today. Spree runs about the same, a little more power on the hills if anything, but I do see a change for the better. Wondering what to try next, cover some ...

And that is why your equipment will always be substandard with substandard performance. Of course you believe you know better. :jack: To stupid to learn from your own mistakes much less the mistakes of others. Oh and somebody needs to break your ball, as little as they are.[/quote] Damm! you'...

Re: Premix and oil injection for 44mm BBK?(i searched)

This guy loves smilies! Really, i'm not looking to get ridiculed about my math or instruction following skills, they are just fine. What I am looking to do is get a little insight on how the break-in proceedure I am doing sounds to the knowledgable guys in the forum. I would think by giving all the ...

Re: Premix and oil injection for 44mm BBK?(i searched)

The place on earth that holes came from is on the paperwork that came with the BBK. They are actually 7/8", but I don't feel there is much of a difference in this case. Catsailor, are you running 44mm or 48mm? I'll try covering a hole or two with a piece of tape for testing, see if that changes...

Thanks for the input. The oil is not mixed in the tank, I have a gas can for that. How does the 85 jet sound?

Premix and oil injection for 44mm BBK?(i searched)

Hello, i'm running the 44mm BBK and taz gears on my 86' spree. four one inch holes in the stock air box, oiled filter. I'm at the end stages of the break-in (3rd tank), running an 85 main jet, mixture screw 1 1/2 turns out. I have been using the oil injection plus 1.5 ounces of oil per gallon of gas...

Re: Contemplating some upgrades...

I actually started with the 48 kit and gears, but went to the 44 and it seems much more tunable. Runs great, good power. All else is stock. I'm running an 85 main jet, punched 4 7/8 inch holes in the top of the stock air box, cleaned and oiled the filter, all is well. I'm still in the break-in stage...

What brand of gear oil should I use for my gears?

By coming to this forum asking a simple question like what gear oil to use, shows your somewhat rookie status as a scooter guy. Who knows, you might be very well versed in other area's of mechanical fun, like cars, boats, *, you could be a plane mechanic for all I know. But a simple gear oil questio...

Re: ****Official Non-Honda Picture Post****

Here's a couple of my non honda scooter rides/projects First is a 67 yamaha YDS5, pulled out of my grandmother's barn in NH. Last inspected in 84'. This is a one year only bike, making it somewhat rare. Lots of mouse nests and barn funk all over this one. It's now completely stripped down and the fr...

I don't think this is correct, please ID. (case pics)

Just split the cases on my 86' spree, and I think there is damage where the oil pump shaft enters the case. I have never split one of these motors, so i'm asking the more knowledgable folk here to help me out. It seems as though material is missing/broken away. Please let me know what you think. Tha...

1st Plug Chop with 48bbk. Thoughts?

So I did the first plug chop with the 48mm BBK on the 86 spree. I'm running stock oil pump and 40 to 1 in the tank. I have 4 1'' holes in the stock air box with a freshly oiled stock filter. Running a 100 main jet. Looks lean to me. Runs great at 3/4 throttle, not so great at full. Ran for about 30 ...

Re: Seemed to fix BBK/Gear install, tuning/jetting Help?

Yes, I think I need to try down jetting. I'll get a couple different sizes and see what happens. As far as the oil and amount(which I had stated in the opening of the post), It's the stock oil injection plus 1.5 oz in a full tank of gas. Maxima scooter pro 2t oil. Seem like too much for a 48mm BBK b...

Re: Seemed to fix BBK/Gear install, tuning/jetting Help?

Here's some pics of the plug after two short runs around the neighborhood, maybe 5-7 minute rides, mostly under 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Looks real rich too me.
