the lessons here are

replace your brake cables if they are rusty, it is possible to free rusty brake cables but that doesnt matter so dont make pointless statements, get free decals, and as mopedman said lube your cables for preventative maintenance.

The flasher does not care what kind of bulb it is operating. The third wire is for the operation of the internal timer.
