Re: ?Non-removable main jet?
Plug chop on a brand new plug, didn't look too lean but pale enough that I thought an upjet would be worthwhile to see if I get any performance increase. I'm using a pod filter for lack of any Tact filters in existence. I guess with the pod and the loose jet it's probably balancing out about as well...

Re: ?Non-removable main jet?
Ahhh ok that makes sense. The Tact carb has the pneumatic style choke/bystarter that dangles by a couple of hoses. Could I get away with a Dio carb like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Carburetor-Honda-DIO-SA50-SYM-DIO-KYMCO-ZX-Scooter-Carb-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem27b8602443QQitemZ170597033...

?Non-removable main jet?
Hey guys, my last plug chop on my 87 Tact suggested things were a tad leen so I thought I'd remove the main jet and check what size it was. After following the tech docs carefully, I've come to the conclusion that my main jet is a bit on the different side and appears to me to be "non-removeabl...

Re: New belt shredded after 20kms
Ha! Don't get me started on imperialisms. It's funny I remembered where I was and almost thought about mathing it into miles. Almost. I've never been able to locate this phantom engine number, I'll dig through the grime and have another look. I "polished" the scratch when I changed the bel...

New belt shredded after 20kms
Hey guys, the new belt on my 87 Tact Furumaku lasted me all of about 20 clicks before it shredded and almost put me on the deck. The old belt seemed to be about 2mm narrower than the SA50 641 x 15.5 I replaced it with. I hoped this was due to wear, and I did seem to get a performance increase with t...

Clutch spring check?
I replaced my badly worn belt the other day and derestricted the vario. Since then the bike's top speed has improved but it needs some Flintstone's style accelleration help to make it up the slight incline outside my house. When I replaced the belt I managed to do it (quite easily) without removing ...

Re: 87 Tact won't start
Slide was sticking, difficult to tell if it was the notch/groove sticking or if the cylinder was warped but I've freed it up with a bit of wet'n'dry. Cheers for the advice. Im back to square one now, 25mph top speed, might have another look at those roller weights...

Re: 87 Tact won't start
Thanks for the diagrams! The slide is definately in the right way. Hadn't thought to check if the needle itself is bent, I'll try the slide without the needle after work and have a look at the edges again while I'm at it. Thanks again.

Re: 87 Tact won't start
Cheers Wheelman, slide is sticky. It wont even go all the way down. I started the bike fine by choking it at the air filter. I'm not sure if the slide body is sticking against the cylinder or if the notch on the cylinder is sticking to the groove on the slide. I tried a little bit of oil but its sti...

Re: 87 Tact won't start
Ha! I'll learn to read if you learn how to spell and use grammar correctly. Yeah? You may be onto something though, the slide may indeed be installed incorrectly. However, I don't understand how it could be installed incorrectly, and I haven't found any other threads that have suggested what your de...

Re: 87 Tact won't start
Took the carb off again and soaked it in some carb cleaner, put it back together and it roared into life first flick of the switch. By roar I mean it really did roar, very high revs. I stopped and started it a few times trying to figure out why it was revving so high. I then removed the slide and ne...

Re: 87 Tact won't start
Cheers Wheelman, no problems at the petcock, got a nice easy flow of fuel. I have noticed that the throttle seems to have a bit of play in it now, could I have installed the slide incorrectly? I adjusted the throttle needle but I imagine this shouldnt affect the bike idling? As far as I can see the ...

87 Tact won't start
Sooooo....my Tact that I originally thought was an aero won't start. I'd originally had problems with power, and it was only really rideable with the airbox removed. I did a compression test and I'm getting about 110 pounds cold. I took the carb off and blew some air through it and put it back on, n...

Re: 1987 Aero Troubleshooting
But if its only running properly without an air filter and I go and put one on, won't I have to compensate the reduced airflow by reducing the amount of fuel....i.e downsizing or leaning the jet?
