Re: 1987 SE50 naked scooter project

The neck on the triple clamp is the same length and diameter. The only thing needed is two of the top bearings, cups and races from a Metro. You might be able to reuse the races in the Elite but I replaced them anyway. The bottom Metro race is too big. The second top race and bearing from the Metro ...

Re: Variator questions

Hmm, ok, I'll keep that in mind. I guess I haven't been here long enough to notice. Anyway, since I'm still in the break-in period, I'll just leave it alone. I had the lighter weights before I notice the variator not fully extending. That's why I put back the heavier OEM weights, thinking it will pu...

Re: Variator questions

Ok, I'll shop for a variator. Now, will a Ruckus variator fit without grinding? Also, if I get a bigger variator, is the belt long enough? If the belt is long enough to hit the extreme ends on the stock front and rear pulleys, it seems it won't be long enough for a bigger front pulley. Unless, it do...

Re: Exhaust nuts replacement

Find a nut that is a little thicker so you get more threads on it. Make sure your washer is big enough to cover the exhaust flange to get a good clamp on it. You can also double up on the nuts so they are more secure.

Re: longer kickstarter?

Yeah, I hear that! Most forums I'm on love having in-depth discussions and the finer points!

Yeah, I would say the longer ones do have a cool factor.

Variator questions

I made Sharpie marks on my variator, which is stock. The only mod i made to the transmission other than the 9:1 gears is a 1500 rpm center spring. After a ride with revs up to 7000 rpm, I checked the variator marks and found that the belt (5O miles on new oem) does not ride near the edge. It is abou...

Re: Bad low speed stumble.

Whoa! $13.72 for a jet?! I'll buy only one, not two. So, I better think about what size to get. Maybe 42? Better to error on the rich side?

Re: Bad low speed stumble.

Ok, I leaned out the gas a little by draining 1/4 tank and filling with straight gas. Basically, I wanted to remove the oil that the pump would have put in. I don't want to remove the oil pump. I want to avoid any off throttle oil starvation. The choke seems to work ok but it takes a real long time ...

Bad low speed stumble.

Ok, I have this setup: Af16e motor, 78cc Nikasil BBK, v8 28mm exhaust, nh80 carb, UNI filter. 32:1 pre-mix with sa50p cabled oil pump (adds another 1 oz per gal to make 25:1). At partial throttle, low speeds, I have a bad stumble. I have the sa50 electric choke, #35 pilot jet & #100 main jet. Th...

Re: longer kickstarter?

Of course I can kick it over, it's not necessary. For a few bucks, why not make it a "little" easier with no real disadvantage. Hmm, hopefully it doesn't hit the ground while off the stand. Maybe that's why it needs to be short? Don't need to answer. This thread is getting too long. It got...

Re: longer kickstarter?

A longer lever will slow down the cranking speed, not make it faster. I had to think about that for a little bit. True, for the same kick speed, a longer lever will produce a slower speed at the kick shaft. But it will also give more leverage. Not that an 78cc is hard to kick. Good point, though.

longer kickstarter?

Well, I got the new AF16 motor started and heat cycling! I don't have a starter at the moment and so I just use the kickstarter. I notice how teeny and short the arm is (as is most 50cc). It is about 6". In the z50 world, there is available a longer kickstarter at about 8". Now, to get a b...

Re: Head bolt not torquing

Dont waste money on heli coil. Get a time-sert is the best one! :thumbwink: For the spark plug holes, I use Perma-Coil. I can return this cheaper kit and get a Time Sert. I've heard that brand recommended a couple times. Thanks. I had the same problem with a head bolt. Took the bolt out after i fel...
