Hey! vette76! Regarding the Napa battery. $20 sounds good to me. Which battery did you purchase? Did you need to alter terminals or make modifications of any kind? Does the Spree charging system charge it okay?

starts, idles 3 or 4 secs., stops

Thanks to all who have helped so far. First, no spark. Problem solved. Next , needed carb part. Problem solved. Now the motor starts, runs for a few seconds, and stops. No cutting out or anything. It just stops running abruptly. It will not start again unless I let it sit for 10 minutes or so, or un...

Zoom, what do your mean when you say it "won't crank or stay cranked"? When I think of cranking a motor I think in terms of the motor turning over as when the electric or kick starter turn or "crank" the motor. Or do you mean it will not fire or run or stay running?

After you slide the pin onto the float you install the float, inserting the pin into position in the groove. Then you install the short screw which holds the pin in place. The pin should be fixed in position held tightly by the head of the screw. The float should pivot freely on the pin.

The float should be loose and free to "float" up in the fuel until the bowl is full and the needle seats and shuts off any additional fuel from flowing into the bowl. (bad sentence, reply if it makes no sense)

Larry, On my Spree the metal piece on the flywheel is just that - a piece of metal. The magnet is located on the pulse generator itself. You probably can disconnect the pulse generator and test for that magnatism as I did. On the Spree, there seems to be no allowance for adjustment. I suspect you wi...

Larry, I agree with noiseguy. You need to at least see the wiring diagram for an SB50P (preferrably the same year as yours). Then you can see if there are other wires or swtches connected to the pulse generator leads. Without that info we are all just guessing, based on our Spree experiences which m...

My resistance reading was 117.5, so it would seem that your are okay with that 115 reading. Are the 2 wires you tested Blue/Yellow and Green as Jerry mentioned? Are you testing for voltage at this same location and using the ac voltage setting on the meter? What the heck is an SB50P?

Larry, I too am infected with that gene. We might be related! However, given the cost of the part relative to the value of a Spree, I think it might just be the "common sense" gene. Anyway, Jerry gave it to you straight on how to test properly (as he always seems to give good reliable info...

pulse coil output

Larry, When trying to determine why I had no spark on my '84, I got an ac voltage reading of between 0.2 and 0.35. When I found and corrected my problem (not the pulse generator), this voltage proved to be enough for the pulse generator to do it's job.

ignition diagnostics

Thanks to jimpomm, Jim, Tippmann98 and Jerry for providing ideas. See exciter coil resistance for additional discussion of my problem. See wiring at CDI for final resolution of my "no spark" Spree. Thanks again to all. Mike

wiring at CDI

Duane, I now have spark! 2 of the wires at the CDI connector block had apparently been removed and re-installed incorrectly. Thanks again for your help. This took quite a lot of effort to figure out. Sometimes a free motorcycle that won't run isn't quite so "free".
