The gap is probably that big from pulling them off the piston after it got chunked. And bear what are forums for if we aren't supposed to ask questions?

Alright well the end gap could be the problem I put them on exactly how the manual said being as careful as I could to not stretch them. I don't have the head matched but I was running two base gaskets which tazland said should have zero issues,

Yeah figured bear would say something like that every post i see from him is bashing other people. Heh cool

I measure .8 of a centimeter i dont have anything to get more accurate with.

Thanks for all the info guys. I build rotary motors so im not all that intelligent with piston motors. But i still dont have all the info i need to try and rebuild again. It almost looks like the ports on the side aren't cut the best and has metal bits pertruding out slightly and could be catching the rings. Does that sound possible?

I have bought new kits and used the new piston and bore each time. Both piston rings were installed the same way.

I did line them up in the ring lands to the ring pins but basically i installed them completely upside down?

Okay i bought an 87 spree got it took it apart piston and cylinder was gashed so time to rebuild. Bought one of taaz 48mm big bore kits and it continues to blow up this is now the 3rd kit with not even 20 miles on it everyone blew up with same gash. Thanks for the info 32 meaning ounces per gallon? And when I put the big bore kit on should I put some oil under the piston it's completely dry it hasn't been started in awhile?
