Re: Possibly picking up a 1982 MB5. Any options?

That first pic didn't do the bike justice - I'm drooling down here lol. The fact that it's so clean only makes it better. Our endurance race has been postponed till February so I've had a slight change of plans regarding mods, now looking at trying to fit a disc brake to the MT off a Honda XR250 par...

Re: Possibly picking up a 1982 MB5. Any options?

Cheers Mike, I've been a bit lazy recently, I've sold the Spree - we had a good run racing/winning the last two but wanted to move up into the realm of the big boys; should be interesting haha. I lost (read broke) my external hard drive with all the GoPro footage so no race day movie, maybe this tim...

Re: Possibly picking up a 1982 MB5. Any options?

They're good wee bikes, I own a 1984 MT50 myself(the 'trail' version  ) and I'm racing a 6 hour endurance event this weekend on it - I'll get back to you in regards to reliability in a few days time. Performance wise, they're reasonably heavily restricted and it's not as simple as taking a coll...

Re: 6-Hour Endurance Race - Spree Upgrade Tips/Recommendatio

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. These are just some of my photos - there were numerous other cameras littered around plus the guy on the mini-moto had a helmet cam. Hoping to grab the video off him this week and put it up here. The race was held on Ohakea Air Force Base, sadly it's d...

Re: 6-Hour Endurance Race - Spree Upgrade Tips/Recommendatio

G'day All It's going to be a big update - I'm happy to say our team won the Step-Thru class, but it wasn't a completely clean race. Two punctures, two crashes and having to run back to the pit after one of the team ran out of fuel due to a faulty fuel gauge. I'll start with the lineup from last to f...

Re: 6-Hour Endurance Race - Spree Upgrade Tips/Recommendatio

Sorry about the delay - I've got all the fundamentals sorted and have just been riding around enjoying the wee scoot. I had put off doing any of the mods and keeping it factory; as I was feeling rather * :jack: as one of my co-riders offered his Aprilia RS50 to race - capable of over 60mph in race t...

Re: 6-Hour Endurance Race - Spree Upgrade Tips/Recommendatio

I've asked the organisers and unfortunately we can't "add" fuel tanks to the bike, be it in the form of tanks strapped to the panniers or foot well, or carrying fuel on the rider (someone once filled a cheap Camelbak up with fuel to give them another few litres). Sadly, my budget isn't tha...

Re: 6-Hour Endurance Race - Spree Upgrade Tips/Recommendatio

 I've had a good chuckle with the replies, The cost to enter the Mopedathon is $30 per team of two or more, as to whether there are any winnings; it's solely bragging rights. All money goes to charity. In regards to Wheelman and Taz's comments on pit stops, refuels have to be carried out with...

Re: 6-Hour Endurance Race - Spree Upgrade Tips/Recommendatio

Thanks to all that replied, I've PM Taz and I'm waiting for a reply regarding a pulley set, as for a loose definition of a bucket racer: Bucket Racing is a form of motorsport that started up in New Zealand and Australia around the 1980's. It was intended to be the cheapest form of motorsport on offe...

Re: 6-Hour Endurance Race - Spree Upgrade Tips/Recommendatio

Cheers for the quick reply, I've got the tools for porting, but would this require any changes to the airbox or exhaust? If so, I'll have plenty of time to get it all sorted :) I pulled off the exhuast the other day when checking the rear brake - I'm pretty sure Honda didn't design a piece inside th...

6-Hour Endurance Race - Spree Upgrade Tips/Recommendations

G'day All I've just brought my first Nifty 50 with the intention of having a blast riding locally and taking part in a 6 Hour Endurance Race, later in the year. The Spree was brought off a older gentleman who had brought the bike new from the dealer back in 1986 and was very well looked after, I cru...
