Re: 89 Elite R - my first build

Well the bike fried back up last night after a let it sit for a few hours. I did not take it for a drive or anything, more just hoping it starts. The plug I am ruining the the recommended one in the wiki of this site. I will check the spark plug tonight and post some pictures of it. On a side note I...

Re: 89 Elite R - my first build

So I got some more test runs in today, but unfourtanatly I have had bad results. I switched my main jet from a 95, to a 105. I have the screw on the carb set to 1-1/4 turns out and was runing decent for the majority of the day. I topped it off with gas, mixing the fuel 32:1. I took if for another ri...

Re: 89 Elite R - my first build

You can use a propane torch to heat up the solder around the bulb and twist with a pair of pliers to take it out, once you have the end free of the headlight housing you have to bust the bulb to get it out then make your own mount to install a different kind of bulb http://newsimg.ngfiles.com/13500...

Re: 89 Elite R - my first build

I was contemplating switching to a universal headset that they have at the local bike shop, but not sure how well everything will mate up. I might just replace the light. probably would be the easiest.I just want to get on the road at this point. :peace:

Re: 89 Elite R - my first build

Howdy all. Where we are getting great weather now I am looking to get the bike back on the road and get it safety inspected but I did notice a problem that will stop that from happening. My running light or low beam does not come on, only my high beam will work. could this be the bulb or some other ...

Re: 87 elite

I see your copying my bike :coolcruise:

I run the 63cc bbk. The bbk in taz kit will not work on that elite. The carb and intake will but you will need to make your own adapter plate. I used the stock read holder and cut it out. Worked like a charm.

Re: Did I get a good deal?

Greetings: If the pump is spinning but dry, the metal will eventually overheat and possibly seize. If and when that happens, the shaft won't spin when the worm drive on the crank tries to rotate it. This may result in little steel shavings being set loose in the crankcase, where they may be drawn u...

Re: 89 Elite R - my first buildI

So I got I good run in today after a few hiccups. First when I went to adjust the needle I took my 102 jet out and when screwing it back in I broke it. I did have one more jet that was a 95 so I installed it. After tuning the carbb again (1 1/2) turns outand properly connecting the throttle cable I ...

Re: 89 Elite R - my first build

Maybe not adjust that much at once, quarter turns and wait five seconds to hear the motor. If idle drops too much, go back one eighth in and listen before adjusting again. Get the air-to-fuel set, then adjust at the idle. If you are more than two turns out on a/f then you lower the pilot jet. Glad ...

Re: 89 Elite R - my first build

Well I just got a legit test run in. It was a little on a cold side -4c but that's warm for Feb. I let it warm up then drove it in the driveway at only 1/4 - 1/2 throttle and I do notice a difference. It doesn't have a quick take off but at 1/4 throttle I was hitting 40km/h and it wanted more so I'm...

Re: 89 Elite R - my first build

So this is gonna be alot harder than I though. I got so many wires in the front and it looks like a mess right now, plus the harness limits where I can mount the headlight/speedo. Now am I able to cut the harness so I can extend the wires further, without shooting myself in the foot. I did get the h...
