What's Up with Michigan and Sprees?
I have owned numerous Sprees, and when I see them locally, I often grab them and part them out (the non-runners, that is). I have sold hundreds of Spree parts over the years, and am amazed at how many of them go to Michigan. Even on this forum, a disproportionate number of members are from MI. How d...

Bypassing the Fuel Valve?
In the old days, motorcycles didn't use fuel valves, but rather petcocks, that worked on simple gravity rather than needing a vacuum. I was wondering what are the negative aspects of bypassing the fuel valve and running a fuel line directly to the carb? Of course its a PITA when you have to remove t...

Thanks guys for your help. Let me add that I have had numerous Honda and Yamaha scooters, and Honda wins the competition hands down. There is a guy on Ebay selling new carburetors relatively cheap. I am sure they are from china, but I am hoping it works long enough to sell the d*** Jog to someone el...

By Starter and Airbox
Kenny, the airbox and filter are off simply beause I needed to squirt starting fluid down the carb. I guess if the by-starter is dead I am really out of luck, since those things are over $150 new and the scoot just isnt worth it.

Choke is automatic
If the by-starter is not working, won't the scooter still start?

Jog (yamaha) will not run (fuel issue...help!)
I know this isn't a Honda, but if anyone can help it would be appreciated. I have a 1986 Yamaha Jog. It will not run. It is a 50cc. Battery is new, cranks great. I must be getting a spark because it WILL run when I shoot starting fluid in the carb. Only runs 5-10 seconds then dies, won't start w/o s...

How to "Un-Stick" a stuck motor?
This has happened a few times to me and I think I am missing something simple? I have a scooter motor out of the bike and it turns over with the kick starter. Then, it seems to get jammed (frozen) and will no longer crank. Its not like the piston is stuck (I don't think)...seems like it needs to hav...

Removing a Stator?
Hi, I have an 82 Express SR and I am trying to remove the stator. IS it pressed on some splines? Do I need a puller to remove or just a light tap with a hammer? I already removed the nut in the middle but it doesn't seem to budge.

Dumb Question #564: Where does the trans fluid go?
The manual says the transmission has a .09 liter/.095 quart capacity. Where do I put this in, or change or drain it? I should know this, but can't find any drain plug or a place to add it. Thanks for helping the stupids like me.

Question about the two petcock hoses
I was wondering about the two petcock hoses running from the petcock to the carb. The larger diameter one is for fuel, and there is certainly fuel coming from it. But what is the lower one for? Is that a vacuum hose pulling air from the gas tank or something? There is no fuel that is supposed to be ...

Can't get Spree to Start
Ok, I picked up a Spree a few weeks ago that had been sitting a year or so. Replaced the battery, cleaned/gapped the plug. I removed and cleaned the carb. It was pretty clean to begin with but went through it to make sure there was nothing in the ports. It cranks great, lots of juice, but won't star...
