Does anybody know the significance of this? I noticed that as well; perhaps it's a quick reference that follows the VIN's eleventh # (...

Re: 01 headlight ?
I upgraded the lights on a dead sealed bulb by carefully cutting the filament out and replacing it with an HID lightbulb. I bought one of those kits that were actually for motorcycles. The problem is that the stator isn't able to push and hold the wattage needed for the upgraded bulb, so my workable...

Re: sym dd50 vs af16e block
As Red EFT said: both are good for buildups, just need to keep track of the small differences between them and make allowances for it. almost all parts with few exceptions are interchangeable, similar to the slight differences between the AF16s and AF18s as AF18s weren't really for the US domestic m...

When you have the chance, download your manual: http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... =11&t=8584
It should be of some help for you to identify missing parts needed.

Re: Finally...my FIRST Elite 50
Those 87s were hot commodity and in the 'wanted' list before the AF16s came into existence. In a way kind of like the Kharmann Ghia to the VW bug; the 87's the sexy cousin to the more common Elite S (SA50s). Congrats MotorMike on adding a beauty to your stable.

If 90/90 is a little wide, you could try 3.0x10s, they're a wee bit thinner and taller. My nephew was running the 90/90's and ran into clearance problems (tire was rubbing into his shock). I gave him the same advice, and he now barely clears the shock.

Re: starting issues
pod filters can work but you will be running lean, so you will have to rejet your carb
2 strokes are finicky with air/fuel ratios; the stock carb runs best with the stock airbox with filter
