Source for 1983 Urban Express new cylinder/piston

Can anyone tell me the best place to get a new cylinder/piston kit for a1983 NU50? Are other models compatible? Or might it be cheaper to bore out to next oversize and just replace the piston on this particular scooter? Thanks.

Source for a cylinder/piston kit for a 1983 urban express

Low compression on 1983 Nu50. Rather than bore to next oversize, the customer want to fit a new cylinder/piston kit. Any suggestions? Is the Nu50 set up interchangeable with any other scooters? And the guy at the scooter shop told me that there was noting I could do if the compression was low. Tsk, ...

Picture of kick start gears

Anyone have a picture of the correct relationship of the kick start gears. I get them to work a few kicks and then the pedal just spin drops (gear teeth disengage) I know I'm only off by a little. A picture of the correct alignment would be very helpful.

BTW, this is a 1983 Urban Express (Nu50)

Re: Urbane express lacks power, shuts down

Really? They packed the variator with grease? Seems like a recipe for slipping belts, etc. Well, I cleaned it all out since it was black and combined with rubber and did not lubricate it in any way. The drive belt was only 60% of its original width. Guess I'll just have to pull the head and cylinder...

Urbane express lacks power, shuts down

!983 urbane express in neglected shape, but purchased by friend anyway. The problem is getting it started and to continue running. I checked compression with the Pep Boys cheap kit and got only 75 lbs. using kick starter. Don't know if this is accurate. Another thing was finding oily, greasy sludge ...

Re: No gas to cylinder

Thanks for those tips. I did some reading about the bystarter system and think that might be an issue. I wired and blew out the little hole a second time. This time I filled the bowl to the proper level manually and replace it on the carb. Carefully reinstalled it and the engine fired up. I think th...

Spree carb interchangeable with other models?

Spree carbs are hard to come by. I found one for $149, but that's too high for me. Any others that might work well?

Re: No gas to cylinder

I'm certainly no "newbie" to scooter repairs. Reeds checked out earlier. I even took the time to decarbonize so it's clean, clean clean inside and out. The carb has been fitted with all the replacement gaskets and o-rings. Compressed air and carb wires went through all the passages that I ...

Re: No gas to cylinder

All testing seems to indicate a bad carb or a dirty carb. I have cleaned the carb now 3 times with all the tools and techniques. Still can't get gas to move from bowl into the venturi area. When I put gas in the air box ( NOT starter fluid) I get a brief firing, but then nothing. The petcock is fill...

Re: No gas to cylinder

Well, at least one person is reading what I write. :-) Thanks everyone for chiming in. Gotta put this on old for a week, but I'll report back hopefully with good news. P.S. Can a big bore kit on this little scooter do much? 48mm bore v 41mm. There's one being sold for $135 on ebay. Has anyone tried ...

Re: No gas to cylinder

Actually, I have cleaned a fair share of 50cc carbs and I do know they have the tiniest of passageways. I haven't cleaned a Honda carb like this, but some French mopeds have some really odd carbs. Ever come across a 50cc Gurtner carb? Now that's a test for cleaning.

Re: No gas to cylinder

How do I know there's gas in the bowl? How do you suppose? I removed the bowl with the carb upright and "voila" there's gas in there. How did I test the spark. Just the way I should by cranking and holding the plug next to a metal ground and observing a 1/2" bright continuous spark. I...

Re: No gas to cylinder

There is gas getting to the carb bowl, so that's been taken care of. The spark is good and hot. I squirted a few drops into the plug hole and reinstalled the plug. Fired right up for a second. It just isn't drawing the gas in the carb into the cylinder. I was told to check the exhaust port to see if...

No gas to cylinder

I've cleaned the carb twice, finally have fuel flowing to the bowl. Cranking over still does not draw gas into combustion chamber. Could this be stuck reeds or carbon buildup in ports? I see that the piston has a certain degree of carbon on the crown. Exhaust is clear. Spark is good. No smell of gas...
