Re: Piston Rings

deuce217 You're saying, put the piston into the jug, then with the piston/jug together, put it back on to the connecting rod? That seems like a lot to hold steady, to get the pin to line up with the piston and the connecting rod bearing. I've always done it the way ringLord4 describes it, and never ...

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

I flipped the head around, and took of my air scoop, and I didn't have any problems. I never would of thought something so simple would make all the difference in the world. I went ahead and put my air scoop back on, and will probably leave it like that for now. I like to drive it WOT everywhere, an...

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

Well son of a gun! :surprise: I have it on wrong! I can see how the overhang part, towards the fan, could stop the air from rushing over the engine. I will switch it around tomorrow, and see how it goes. I might not need my redneck air scoop after all.

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

Oh the head. Well honestly, I don't know. Is the overhang part supposed to be towards the fan, or towards the carburetor? In the manual, on page 6-0, it shows it pointed towards the carburetor, but in the picture on 6-3, it looks like it's pointed towards the fan. I have the fins going left to right...

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

I adjusted the air screw to 2 turns, and it soft-seized. I then tried 2 1/2 turns, and it soft-seized. I thought I would inspect the reeds, and I found out that whoever had the engine before me used the wrong bolts, and one side wasn't bolted down all the way. I cleaned the reeds, and used the right...

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

It is obvious from this post that you have not read the service manual at all, because that is NOT how you set the idle mixture screw and you have no clue how to read a spark plug because you haven't read Wikispreedia to find out either. Wikispreedia says 1 1/2 turns out for an 86' . Did I miss som...

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

I recently cleaned the entire carburetor, and I put the intake screw at 1.5 turns. It was running like crap, until I cleaned the carburetor. I've tried doing the plug chop, but I am unsure if it's good, or too lean. It's definitely not too rich, as there is no oil on it. I bought a brand new plug, a...

1986 NQ50 Overheating

I was wondering if you guys could help me know why my 1986 Honda Spree NQ50 is overheating. It soft-seized twice today. I have all the parts on there. I recently put a new stock piston/cylinder kit on there from Taz, and it has 90 miles so far in the break-in period. I know I get impatient, and want...

Re: Over heat with no fan shroud?

This leads me into another question now (not sure if I should start a new thread or not). Can I simply take one of these two stock cylinders I have laying around, have one of them bored out to 48mm, and then simply purchase the 48mm piston kit sold by Taz ? I read you guys talking about jetting, lar...

Re: Over heat with no fan shroud?

This is like running and water cooled engine with no coolant.
Yeah, I didn't think about that until after the fact. Oh well. You can bet your a** it won't happen again!

Re: Over heat with no fan shroud?

It wasn't a new piston or cylinder. It was from a parts bike, so it was already worn in. It gave about 90psi cold. I am upset, but I learned.

Over heat with no fan shroud?

Could a Honda Spree over heat simply by not having the fan shroud installed? We drove around for about 15 minutes, top speed, and now it died, and the piston and cylinder are trash. It was still in rebuild mode, so I didn't think of putting it on. I can't think of any other reason for it to over hea...

Re: 86' Alternator on a 85' Frame

When swapping '86/87 Spree engine into an '84/85', the Green wire bullet connector to pulse coil can be left hanging.
Thank you mousewheels. That's what I was thinking. It was providing a ground connection for the 85', but the 86' pulse coil is already grounded.

Re: 86' Alternator on a 85' Frame

If I use the 86' engine, that doesn't have a green wire, then the green connector on the frame, I can just leave loose then, since it's just a ground for the 85'.

86' Alternator on a 85' Frame

I was thinking of putting an 86' engine on an 85' frame, but the wires from the alternator are a little different. The 86' has four wires total, and the 85' has five. The three stator wires are a match, and the blue wire with a yellow stripe is a match, but the 85' has an extra green wire, from the ...
