The bowl float would keep it from flooding, so that even if the fuel valve is broken it should still be fine. It does sound like it is carb problem, if it cannot sustain idle, with the screws set per service manual, then you have to clean the carb. If it dies on full throttle and the bystarter is ok...

Do you have the tubes hooked up right? Or are you sure you know what the vacuum tube is? There is no way gas can get into the vacuum tube if the fuel valve is working properly.

My thoughts with no hard evidence. 1) Too much oil in the crank case from excess in line that drips into the intake, and or leak by from the oil pump shaft seal (non replaceable, you have to live with the oil pump leak unless you want to buy a new one). 2) Idle circuit is enlarged causing excess fue...

What you describe is a rich condition, when the cylinder is getting too much fuel. This is not unusual with a carb/choke set up at a cold start. If it doesn't do it when it is warmed up then it should be ok. You will notice a rich condition on a warm engine when it is at its top end and either you h...

Like Vette said look at throttle piston to make sure it is correct, air screw is set right. If all correct you have a vacuum leak behind the throttle between the reed valve. If both are doing it then it sound like you assembled them both wrong. Did you put the orings back on the thermal gasket betwe...

Here is something from a website that is a perfect explanation.... Aero 125, Elite 80/125/150/250, Helix bystarter (choke) These models use an electric "choke". It's not a standard choke, in the sense that it doesn't choke off the flow of air (and make the fuel/air ratio richer). It is a d...

It is well known that the bystarters are a weak link on these carbs. I would bet 90% of the issues on starting with good spark are related to the bystarter. The other 10% is Jason's pet peeve of people thinking they have cleaned the carb when they haven't cleaned every hole. Good luck let us k...

The bystarter needs to retract and the engine cool for a true cold start test. With a warm engine and a bystarter retracted you may get a false read on a rich condition. The idea is you are troubleshooting, not trying to develop a daily startup routine. The goal is to determine what is wrong. The by...

I have an 82 Yamaha Seca 400, they are geared to go, just not good highway cruisers, At 60mph the engine is working hard. But from a standing start you can probably get 0-60 is less than 5 sec. which for motorcycles is slow, but for cars is extremely fast. Spree = 0-60mph in 9.8m/sec^2 (i.e. Acceler...

Can you read the numbers on the side or bottom of the jets? Are you sure they are 65's. If the jet has any burrs inside from trying to clean it that will effect it. Also the older a jet gets, dirt particles will start to widen the hole just slightly enough to cause it to go rich. Order a #65 ($5 at ...

You are right that it sounds like the bystarter is not closing off the enriching circuit. Try installing the bystarter and letting it sit for about 1-2 hours. Then try to start it, if that fails, and by pulling the bystarter and putting your thumb over the hole starts it, then you have a faulty seal...

By brake lever pulled, I am assuming he is using the electric start. No brake lever needed if using the kick start. Was this running? Was it running while you owned it? Has it been sitting long? What is the condition of the wires/battery/flywheel? All would indicate a different approach to diagnosis...
