I've read that there is a chance that if it gets wet it can hold the moisture and in that way damage the pipe but that was on a website that claimed to have a better alternative (ceramic coating) I also read from a wrap-pro site that it is waterproof and that wasn't true, so who knows. ^ I dont know if saying it does "nothing" is accurate though. the exhaust is fairly close to the engine and if you prevent the heat from the pipe from radiating out near the engine i would assume it may keep the engine slightly cooler. It would probably be hard to prove this but Honda did ...
