Hi Mike... Still around. I run hot and cold with hobbies. The gyro is just ridden at this point. Not much changed - just my $100 gyro.

To purge oil from the line... I pull the pump and attach my cordless drill to the end of the pump shaft and run it till all air is purged. Done more than 6 times on many scoots. It take about 2 minutes on high.

The moving of the piston sucks air down the intake side of the carb... which you will notice has a hose ...

You can find knock-offs for the by-starter on fleabay. This bystarter circuit allows additional gas to flow during a cold start. The circuit gets blocked when the bystarter starts to receive current when the motor runs / stator. If you have effectively blocked the bystarter tube from the carb bowl.....

Yes the drain plug is not working. Fairly certain there is an o-ring on the drain screw. You may be missing this. I once had an '85 Aero with a bad petcock... it is not typical as you know. I gave up and bypassed it - just me - worked out fine off the float in the carb bowl.
