I would imagine that you would use a hydraulic or cable controlled variator similarly to a clutch, in that you would ride the desired rpm. The rider might have a best sense of torque rpm and hp rpm, and manually keep the engine in that rev range. The rider can use the downshift to engine break also....

Baka, I looked into the oil cable, I believe we are good there. I have the oil pump zip tied wide open, and the cable rests behind the air filter, with plenty of room left at WOT. Unthreading the throttle cap did make a difference, I could not do a visual as I was at work, but I believe we are on to something. Achieved 37 wot . 40 downhill. Has a little better takeoff too. Also, would not threading the throttle cap ALL the way down do the same by introducing a gap or distance in how far up the slide can go? Not a permanent solution, but may be a good test. If it works, I could find a more permanent solution.

I have adjusted at the throttle cable, I have backed the thread channel all the way out, and locked down the nut, did not make that much of a difference. The next step will be to pull the slide from the carb, and see if perhaps the bezel that the cable bulb fits into is worn, making the bulb fit hig...

Looks like it may be the cause, there is a good 1/8 of travel left if in fact it is supposed to go completely flush. I am thinking of washer shimming the cable head within the slide if possible.
