There's no variator, or variable transmission. You can swap motors with a 50cc Elite made after '87. Not sure if a variator off another model will bolt up.

Take it easy on the starting fluid, you can easily melt the piston on these. If it won't start the idle jet's not clean. Try pulling the choke partially out, remove screws and pull up, making sure not to pull it out past the o-ring. If it runs then the idle circuit still isn't clean. If the idle jet ...

Doubt there's much; the CDIs are called "black boxes" for a reason. If you have a frequency generator and a event counter/oscilliscope you could probably figure out the ignition timing and RPM limit. I'm betting it's really simple, like a single-set ingnition advance setting. I've read tha...

The Spree has a rev limiter to keep the motor from overspeeding. It will sit at 8000 (I believe that's the redline) for quite awhile.

You need to add a new sidecover with kickstart and change the main pulley for the engine. There's a FAQ about this somewhere... Jim? Contact drichardson@core.com for parts, or check Ebay.

Fuel, air, fire. If you have spark and fuel, it should at least kick over a couple times. Check your compression, it should be between 115 and 90 PSI, much lower and it won't fire. Do you have the correct plug?

The flexible plastic parts are some sort of thermoset, which means that large creases can be taken out with a heat gun and pressure if you're carefull. I used this to straighten out the knee guard and fender on mine. Heat gun and hands protected with leather gloves to smooth out the bumps.

You might want to look into cleaning your tank, as per the post in the Tech Documents. Sounds like it's full of rust.

Try a clean/rebuild on the carb b/f you buy a kit. The carb was designed to be rebuilt without needing new gaskets (rubber seals). Besides, there's only two jet, and the tiny, non-replaceable idle jet is the most likely to need cleaning. You might want to pull the head after you get it running. Beli...
