Re: Scoot Across the US

what would you bring on such a trip? I'd probably bring: spare tire, innertube, tube patch kit, drive belt, complete spare carb, air filter (pre-oiled in a ziplock baggie), spark plug, disposable inline fuel filters (lots of crappy gas out there), quart of 2-cycle oil, can of carb cleaner, can of s...

Not me. On all the Sprees I've worked on, the CDI was located just like the picture in the service manual.

I just use the battery charger to power the bike if I know I'm going to be cranking the starter a lot for some kind of repair. That way it doesn't matter if the battery is weak (or dead, or missing from the bike). I got a cheap little 10 amp charger, and it has no trouble cranking a Spree motor.

Also, does anybody know how fast the electric start should be cranking the engine? Mine seems slow but I'm charging it now, and I was just wondering if it has to crank at a certain rate to get the engine to start. (assuming everything else was working properly) Somebody posted this video a while ba...

Fuel line diameter on '86 Spree?

What size fuel line do I need for the piece that goes from the petcock to the carb? Is it 3/16? I couldn't find this bit of information in the service manual.

It depends. If you're not used to 2-cycle engines it might be more smoke than you're expecting. Yes, a 2-cycle scooter engine will always puff out a thin stream of blue smoke that gets a bit thicker when you lay on the throttle. On the other hand, if you have a dark blue cloud that follows you where...

Penzoil Marine 2-cycle oil seems to work good in Sprees, and doesn't build up nearly as much crap inside the engine as some of the other brands.
