Re: Questions about 87 nq50 mods.
I used a yamaha zuma as a test mule with my latest mod. Before I ported the intake and made the carbon reeds I compared acceleration. I am quite sure it is variable drive and from a standing start the zuma would pull me by at least 4 scooter lengths, but then the spree would make that up plus 4 leng...

Re: Questions about 87 nq50 mods.
I used carbon fiber reed paper. I used a small cut off disc in a dremel type tool to carve them out. When I was done I sanded the edges with 600 paper to make sure there were no sharp edges.

Re: Questions about 87 nq50 mods.
I wound up ordering .3mm reed paper when i ordered the pipe. It has a little curl to it that worried me a little. I dont know if that is typical for the thin sheet to be curled or if it is a defect. I ported the intake elbow and made the reeds today. The reeds dont sit exactly flat but very close. I...

Re: Questions about 87 nq50 mods.
as an update to this, I purchased a mlm pipe for the scoot. I took it out for a dig. I didn't wring it out but it definitely revs out better. I didn't really feel a kick when it came on the pipe like I hoped, but it needs tuning for sure. It seems plenty rich at this point. Does anybody know what rp...

Head Thoughts
THE stock head on a 87 nq50 has areas that are quite thick, actually almost 7/8 inch. I wonder why this is. It would seem to me that it would slow down the cooling. I was thinking of machining some of the thick areas down but leaving standing ribs where I can. I know there are a lot of different an...

Port timing vs compression?
With the spree 48mm big bore kit they send two base gaskets to prevent piston to head contact, I assume. With this second gasket there would be a slight loss of compression, however there would be a gain in port timing. So, my question is, if the head was machined just enough to clear the piston, pl...

Re: Questions about 87 nq50 mods.
Take off with the stock gearing was very close and with the latest version should be pretty much the same as stock if not a little better. When you get on the pipe its like a swift kick in the behind ;-) you'll be holding on tigher from 10-15 MPH to when the revs top out. Thank you for all the info...

Re: Questions about 87 nq50 mods.
the big bore cylinder has the exhaust port about 2mm higher than the stock one so I am thinking I might leave that alone. I know a variator drive would be ideal but with my limited knowledge of these things it would seem that I would almost need a doner bike to swap out the crank and crankcase and v...

Re: Questions about 87 nq50 mods.
I ve seen adds for new, stock appearing, exhaust and was wondering if they flow any better than a stock pipe. It is pretty much a challenge to see what it will do. The reason I asked in the first post about rpms is so that I have an idea of how much i need to gear it up. If I can rev it and it will ...

Questions about 87 nq50 mods.
Hi all, I am new to this site and to scooters. However I am not new to modifying things. I am working on a 87 spree nq50 in the hopes of increasing the top speed. Target speed is 45mph. I have purchased a 48mm kit and intend to modify the air box and jetting accordingly. I am thinking about milling ...
