Re: New member from France with a 1986 Aero 50
Question : Is this ramp plate an unrestricted one https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-nb50m-1985-f_model49959/plate-ramp_22131gn2600/#.XbA76pozbIU It is meant for a UK market version. I think the 'UK2' is on my ramp plate & I think the belt would ride all the way to the top of the variator. There are s...

Re: New member from France with a 1986 Aero 50
One day, I'll make it over to see for myself, looking forward to the pictures! I think the weather where your are must be good, you look a lot younger these days :-) My AE50 deserves some road time, but next year as it's almost winter in England. I have some weird problem where the engine will not r...

Re: aero 50 belt
Don't forget to put some slack in the belt by squeezing the clutch bell housing before you refit & tighten the variator nut. There's some mention of this in the Wiki IIRC. If the belt doesn't need to be slackened in this way, it's maybe too loose. The workshop manual will also have a minimum wid...

Re: New spree owner.
When I first got my '85 UK Honda Vision (Aero in the US?) a couple of years ago, I took the carb apart and also the fuel feed filter from the tank, gave both a clean then put it all back together. Only way I could get it to start after that was by putting my finger over the carb air inlet, and then ...

Re: Scooters in Asia
I like the pix, I took quite a few in Macau when I was there earlier in the year but nowhere near as detailed as yours. Let me know if you're interested and I'll post some.

Re: Looking for spree jetting specs for high altitude
Maybe test by taking the foam out of the air filter and /or lean the idle mixture? Like the man in the post above says, take care you don't go too lean, plug colours will indicate how things are burning.

Re: New member from France with a 1986 Aero 50
Good to know that you've found the issue, and that you've managed to keep the original carb. It gives me some pointers about why my '84 Vision was having similar, but slightly different issues earlier in the year. I may try a larger main jet to see if I get a bit more uphill WOT power.

Re: New member from France with a 1986 Aero 50
Is the main jet needle secure, what position is the needle clip on?

Re: New member from France with a 1986 Aero 50
If the engine dies at full throttle when you take your finger away, is that still the idle jet causing the problem? It does sound like a fuel / air problem though. Are all of the joints tight between the carb & the engine, reed cage etc? Does the carb float move freely, and the float valve / fue...

Re: New member from France with a 1986 Aero 50
Just thinking that if the spark plug is wet then maybe there's not enough air going via the idle circuit. How many turns out is the idle jet air screw? I tend to agree that these carbs can be difficult, I've not been riding my Honda much this year due to messing about on another brand of moped but w...

Re: turning point in life
If I do dig in to it again, it'll be to re-think the bowl vent situation. It's really hard to start unless I fire it up every single day. Just 48 hours and I'm back to 14 kicks before ignition. Try extending the carb breather tube to somewhere under the seat where you can blow into it. It's the onl...

Re: 80cc carb set up?
Backing out the air screw will make the mixture leaner. What colour is the spark plug after you've had the engine running? What notch is the carb needle on? What size jets do you have?

Re: Suzuki / Morini 50cc engine noise
The noise from the crank was getting me down so I put the motor on the bench and had a good look. I can now see that the con rod has about 1-2mm of up&down play at the big end, the top / small end is fine. It's strange that I couldn't see it before, so can only guess that it was caked with carbo...

Re: Suzuki / Morini 50cc engine noise
Sorry, good point. I should have mentioned that you can feel the slack and a get a metallic tick noise with the piston halfway up or down. You're right, there will always be a 'dead spot' at the top & bottom where the crank rotates but the piston does not move. I'll get the motor on the bench wh...

Re: Suzuki / Morini 50cc engine noise
I've guessed the movement is in the bottom end as the crank & small end bearings have been changed so hope that they're ok at least for now. The piston pin is a snug fit in the piston & bearing. I checked the play by slightly rotating the magneto flywheel back and forwards. I get about 1-2mm...
