Re: '96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

Got the scooter all finished up today. I spent way too much time cleaning the 22 years of crap off of it, but it looks pretty good from 5 feet away. I can't say I'm a fan of all the clips on the side panels, really a pain in the butt. Fresh Michelins make it feel like a new bike. https://i.imgur.com...

Re: '96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

The weather cooperated last night so I got the bike out for 10 minutes and rode it around the subdivision. It hesitated for a second, but once it was warmed up it ran like a bat out of *. It ran so good I don't even think I'm going to mess with the belt. I plan on mounting the tires tomorrow night a...

Re: '96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

Do not run the scooter with the cover off unless you have removed the pinion gear first. That noise you're hearing could very well be from the pinion gear which is mounted just in front of the drive face/variator. While the motor is idling, it can jiggle around just enough to brush into the drive f...

Re: '96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

Ended up getting a new muffler from eBay. https://i.imgur.com/0gEJV3qh.jpg With the new muffler on the bike sounds very healthy. However it still has a hesitation around 10mph. I thought I heard something 'jingling' in the rear while riding. I took the cover off and started the bike on the kickstand...

How much is he asking for it?
$50 + shipping. He's a couple hours away so fortunately shipping is cheap. The dealer said they are showing they can still order them for about $110. Partzilla is $93+shipping.

Re: '96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

Thanks MM! Those bikes can develop a slow oil leak and fill up bottom end with oil. If bottom end is full you can remove engine and drain out through oil pump hole, overnight. You'll know bottom end is full if you crank it over with plug out... it will spew oil *everywhere.* This is something you w...

Re: '96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

Also, someone local is selling a new Elite S muffler, 18300-GS7-980. This Elite SR calls for the 18300-GS7-950, muffler. They claim it can be derestricted to work on my scooter. How hard is that to do and is it really the only difference? Nothing else internal?

Re: '96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

I finally got the scooter in my garage yesterday and started tearing it down. It's actually in way better shape than I remembered. It could use a seat cover, the foot floor board is cracked in a couple places, but everything else mostly needs a good cleaning. The tires are shot but and it doesn't wa...

Re: '96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

Teardown is easy. Do it once and youÔÇÖll see. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hSFuAFpK9eY As with any newly acquired vehicle, a full inspection of all areas is recommended. Replacing all worn parts and fixing any leaks. A good cleaning will help find leaks and other potential issues hiding under the...

'96 Honda Elite SR50 restore help

Hey all, I posted this over on Reddit and was directed here for more knowledge. :coolcruise: My dad has a '96 Elite SR50 that is in pretty poor shape and I want to restore it the best that I can for him. Oddly enough it was outside once when it was hailing and some of the plastics got cracked. What'...
