These guys know way more than I..
If it was running, then I'd do a compression test.

Rebuild top end or replace motor?
Got my 86 spree up and running. Ran great for a couple weeks then died and wouldn’t start.
Zero compression.
So the question is. Swap the motor or rebuild top end? I was thinking I could rebuild but I don’t know the official cause so that technically could happen again.

Re: 85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
Hey Ottoman. Thanks for the clip!!
So problems seem to be solved.
Slide was sticking on old carb. Once seated on new carb, with clip from ottoman on the pin, and throttle cable adjusted all the way towards grip, idles accordingly and throttle works like a champ.
Thanks to everyone.

Re: 85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
When running I have screwed all way in and out with no effect.
Right now i have it as close as I have gotten it.
I cant start without spraying the air intake with fluid. Then when it starts the throttle is still engaged but not as bad.
I'm assuming the non starting is because too much fuel?

Re: 85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
Yeah. Both springs and slide act the same. I thought about that too.

Re: 85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
It seems that when the throttle is engaged the whole assembly slides up the cable housing.
I have a new carb with slide/cap/spring/pin coming so will swap out that part of the assembly.

Re: 85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
Yes. Swapped carbs and the slide seated properly.
The throttle housing seems to move away from the carb cap connector.
So the throttle will stick "open" when the actual cable and housing is sliding out then stays there.

Re: 85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
Oh it is seated properly now.
Just seems the throttle is open still. Not as bad as it was but still open.
If I use the throttle on the bars, it has no effect. And I can visually tell the throttle cable is moving down the slide instead of the spring loaded slide moving.

Re: 85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
So I used the cap spring and pin from my other spree. Ran about half throttle instead of full on
Throttle is def messed up. Thanks otto-man for sending the clip.

Re: 85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
Yeah. Messed with that a bunch couldn't see the notch.
Took off the carb and was doing that on the bench.
Side note, the clip that goes on the pin notches broke. So I'm in a holding pattern until the pin , spring , etc gets replaced. Dont want to buy a whole new carb just for that.

85 Spree Start issue then full throttle
I have an 85 Spree that if I put spray the air intake with fluid, will start right up. But when it starts it is full throttle/RPM.. Gas is on full no matter what I do with the throttle. I screwed both carb adjustments to no effect. I backed out the bottom one 1.5 turns but neither have any effect on...

Re: What year Spree is mine?
Check out the panels. The little bulbs are the indicators. Definitely a mod but I haven't seen that type of panel.

Re: What year Spree is mine?
Just a follow up. I have a red 85 and a black 86.
The black one has the front turn signals built I to the panels. Is that a mod or original as I cant find any like that.
