Re: Stator wire - 1/3 strands missing, would that cause an ignition problem? I've been giving that a fish eye, but didn't want to just give an opinion.... time to do some homework --- Ok, lets look at a short segment of reduced wire size to simulate your broken strands. Wire resistance of a given g...

Re: Help me save this 87 Spree from being parted out...

I recently picked up another Spree on Craigslist to part out, but when I cleaned it up it really looked good and thought it would be a shame to part it. So then my misson began trying to get it started. I have a bunch of left over parts from my other part-outs so I figured I would give it a shot. F...

sorry for questioning you. You are obviously on a higher lever than me. You have convinced me. There is definitively not even a slight chance this won't work the way you envision it I did do 2 stroke as a factory certified tech for a lot of years and worked on thousands of engines with problems. I ...

Its not an ignition problem. If it can rev to 15mph, then it should rev to 35mph. You need to clean your carb again REAL good and blow it out with compressed air. The air screw you are messing with is for idle ONLY. Its sounds like your bystarter is not working. If you can crank in the idle air scr...

Does it just give you 2" of lift or 2 additional inches of shock travel?

This isn't really a permanent or perfect fix, but have you tried upping the idle? My bike, fairly consistently, will idle fine for as long as you leave it, but if you jump on it'll bog down (although mine doesn't usually stall like yours). But if I up the idle speed so that the wheel is spinning a ...

sounds like a tremendous waste of time and effort. if it aint broken don't fix it if it worked like you hope it does, it would work SLIGHTLY better than stock. If it works out like the many other possibilities it may be disastrous How would it end up being a disaster? Specifics please. If one does ...

I don't see how you could have fried the starter. First, ok this will sound stupid, but...... Do you have the brake on when you are trying to crank the engine? If so, you need to make sure the starter will turn over by hand as you could have broken it when the bolt came loose. Check to see if you ha...

It may have been to prevent oil build-up on the float, giving it more weight. that would keep the needle open too long and cause leaking. IIRC, aren't most outboards using a diaphragm in the carb? None when it comes to production outboards. All had floats. The only diaphragm carbs I ever saw were o...

Re: Heavy Duty Rear Spring for Spree??

Is there a heavier rear spring I can bolt on my Spree? Off an Aero or Elite that can bolt up without modification maybe? My fat * needs some more spring support. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r206/Bear-45-70/Emoticons/RoflLg.gif Unfortunately I recognize the problem, even though I've lost 30 p...

It seems like this would work; my concern is why Honda didn't do this in the first place, it would have been less expensive. I'm asking around on this. I've seen engineers do some pretty stupid things over the years. I worked for a few years in the expermental department at Beechcraft Airplane fact...

Stock belt is 62.8 x 1.14 x 30°

That's length x width x angle of belt face in cm.

Bear, Yeah, I'm just trying to rationalize why Honda chose the path they did, when you basically showed there's a better path. IDK if the oil pump can hold off the gas or not, it's just a what if scenario.... Do the outboard oil pumps have any reverse flow check valves built in? The pump doesn't ha...

Did you reassemble everything correctly. The belt sounds like the right length. So that leaves incorrect assembly making the belt to tight.
