Cycling of Idle speed

Any ideas what would cause idle speed to cycle up and down? It will consistenty go from a very low, "near-stalling" idle speed to racing idle speed. The bystarter is brand new and the Carb is immaculate, air element/box are brand new, gas new and clean. It starts and runs fine, just that t...

if you search this section for "bystarter" you'll find a ton of explainations for what it does. basically there's wax inside that expands/contracts as your engine heats/cools. this expansion closes/opens a fuel enrichment circuit that allows a cold start. if it's not working it's hard to s...

yeah the bystarter came complete with wires, plastic parts, needle/barrel brass parts attached to plastic via a spring. it was like $40 plus shipping. as I understand it, they work by some sort of wax inside the plastic expanding and contracting as the engine heats or cools. on mine at least, someho...

abandoned elite? how do i get it?

this is hard to believe but parked in a commercial parking lot lot near my house i've noticed an elite (year??) just sitting there. i'm just about positive that it's abandoned because it never moves and it seems to be just rotting away.... it has been there all summer untouched as far as i can tell....

Survey question about "weak links" on scoots

First of all, thanks to all of your help, i've gotten my Aero 50 (1983) that i recently bought running well. it was all due to a genuinely fautly bystarter and thankfully I found one on bikebandit. As i've learned, these are a very weak link on these scooters and seem to be a big annoyance for many....

yeah i was confused by this too. the spring is supposed to push the needle all the way down. but this isn't what really "matters." its the base piece of plactic that all this stuff is attached to that actually moves. on mine, it wasn't retracting all the way when it was cooled so that need...

yeah i had the exact same problem. there's a good chance it's the automatic bystarter (i.e. automatic "choke"). Basically, if the problem is in this area, it's either that 1. the rubber o-ring that seals the bystarter in once screwed in is fauly. air would therefore be leaking in as you tr...

Rain / water on a scooter

I live in NC where we often have afternoon thurnderstorms with downpours. Since I ride it to school, sometimes it sits in the rain. I am curious...how bad is it for a scooter to be sitting out in in the rain? Is there anything that should be done to protect the scoot from rain (other than putting on...

are you tring to fix an auto bystarter or convert one to manual? i was just about to start a thread about trying to make a manual choke adapted to fit where the auto bystarter goes. that would save SOOO much troble for so many scoots

thanks a lot... what you said, i've done it now and basically have determined that my bystarter is not fully retracting. it retracts a couple of mm (maybe 1-2mm max) at most but that's it and I think this isn't enough to open the fuel enrichment circuit. what i did was take off the pin and the sheat...
