Just do what I did - unhook every electrical component on the bike and then connect the battery and start rehooking up components one by one. When your fuse blows, thats probably the component with the problem.

For me it was a bad voltage regulator/rectifier

I'm running a BPR6HS - the kind recommended for Spree. I dont know if Elite E requires something different. I just changed to a #68 main jet now, will let you know how it goes.

Noiseguy is referring to the fact that my Spree has an '89 Elite engine. I am using a Spree carb.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the jet is a #65 - what came with the carb.

Warm restart problems

My spree starts right up from cold on the first kick. However, after riding 10-15 minutes, if I happen to stall out, it is a b*tch to restart, it takes like 20 kicks while giving it gas and then it barely catches and I have to throttle it like crazy to bring it back to life. I would BRIEFLY (<1 sec) hook up a 12V battery directly to the starter and see if it turns over. If not, you have a motor problem.

Check your starter relay - you should hear a clicking sound coming from it as you hold the brake in and press the start button. Also make sure the starter motor has a good ground connection

I vote that its a dirty carb - make sure all 3 jets are clean, and you have a clean air filter in place properly buttoned up including the hole on top.

Red to Black = Ignition on Green to Black/White = Ignition off If you don't have a key, just hook up red to black and wrap the other 2 wires in electrical tape so you dont short out anything - you dont really have to connect them I dont think. You should install a switch between red and black so you...

I used a large pipe wrench with long handles to grab the slots on the alternator cover while using a torque wrench on the drive pulley nut.

Just make sure you dont damage the alternator coils!

Actually that oversimplified explanation is correct...at least for one type of Elite engine I know... I have installed a '89 Elite E engine into a spree - using a spree carb too! I can't speak for other engines though I used the existing Spree engine mount and had to cut at the frame like 1/4" ...
