This is not good-sounds more complicated than a plugged line. From your description, it sounds like the left main seal is leaking. You're right-there are oil seals on each side of the crankshaft that seal in the mixture. They must hold pressure for the engine to run. If one is leaking, the engine wo...

Haha, well that would definitely cause you some problems. If the bystarter is still on there, you can test it, but you'll have to rewire it first. Where were the wires cut? They're not too hard to reattach though if there's still some left. Just solder (or twist if you're desperate) together some ne...

This thread seems to be filling up fast. I didn't know so many people checked so often! Anyway, I would definitely not get the hoses from Honda. I priced them once awhile ago and they were way overpriced. What I did was just find some fuel line from Ace that was the correct ID (it's a little bit sma...

I think you're just having carb troubles. After the engine gets warm (about 5 minutes or so) the bystarter is done doing its job. So your mixture when the bystarter is off isn't correct. More specifically, your idle circuit is off just a bit and won't let the engine idle. You should probably start b...

You are correct that the piston action creates pressure waves that draw in fuel/air from the carburetor. On the Spree, this pressure also acts through the little petcock line and operates the vacuum petcock. It's really a simple system used on many, many machines. It sounds to me like your engine is...

$200 doesn't sound too bad. But if it's not running, maybe $150 cash for a well-kept 50cc moped wouldn't be unreasonable. The good thing is that it's a Honda and parts aren't all that hard to get ahold of, even for older models. You never know what's wrong with it until you get it back to your place...

How much are you leaning it to the side? Actually, why are you leaning it? Trying to get the oil out? Usually 2strokes will collect oil in their crankcases-it is oil that has fallen out of suspension with the fuel. So when they are first started up, they usually smoke more than normal. It's just the...

That's kind of strange that you could get the case gasket. I guess my local dealer isn't paying their dues to Honda or something. Anyway, I bet there are a few mph hidden away in that intake. It would be pretty easy to attack with a Dremel, but I used my diamond porting tools for it. I'm going to ma...

I bet she didn├óÔé¼Ôäót run too good with a gaping hole in the bottom of the crankcase. Haha. Actually I just completed a full ├óÔé¼Ôäó85 Spree rebuild myself. I ported everything while I was in there, and I took the time to do a nice job. If you├óÔé¼Ôäóre feeling adventurous, the intake area where ...

Spree RPM

Does anyone happen to know what RPM the Spree engine is turning at 30 mph? I think I read somewhere it is 8000, but just wondering if anyone knows for sure.

The best thing to do would be to measure the compression ratio and decide how much you can safely remove. Measuring the squish with a piece of solder would be another way to make sure the piston isn't coming too close at TDC. But compression ratio would depend on which year piston you're using. When...

Probably just need a new exhaust gasket, if it was just leaking around the cylinder. Usually exhaust gaskets are throw-away items good for one use, especially copper crush ones, but I have used them again on the Spree with success a few times. I would also make sure that the black plastic cover hasn...

'85 Piston in '86 Engine

Has anyone put a (stock) '85 piston in an '86 barrel? Are the piston dimensions the same? I know the '86 has a recessed dome and the '85 doesn't. And I really need to know if the '86 head fits comfortably with enough squish clearance. I haven't ordered my piston yet, and I'm trying to decide if I sh...

boost bottle will help Hi, I'd like to say something after reading all this. A boost bottle has nothing to do with nitrous or any fuel supplement. A boost bottle is a small chamber or tube on the intake that holds mixture to keep the carburetor from double-carbureting the mixture before a two strok...

Alright, I have an update. It appears that the standard and 0.25 oversized pistons, along with the rings, can still be bought from Honda. I have a barrel from another engine that I was working on awhile ago that I am planning to use. I'm going to go ahead and get a new stock piston and rings and hon...
