What about putting a disc brake on your front end with an SE hub... Didn't that require a little welding to get the bracket onto the fork?

Replacing Crank Bearings: Down with the Stiffness

A while back I got a salvaged SA50 engine block (94), It had been ridden into oblivion well after it's crank bearings were shot... I managed to get it all apart, ruining a few parts in the process... I ended up with two case halves, new bearings, new oil seals, and a new crank. After lots of cleanin...

i'm pretty sure that the main jet's spray is controlled by the needle that moves up and down when you twist the throttle... If you need more juice at Wide Open Throttle, you get a bigger jet. Some fine adjustments can be made on some needles by changing which "notch" they sit at inside you...

Okay, that one flathead screw, dead center, that's your idle mix... screw it all the way clockwise (gently, no need to gorrilla it down), then back it out... On my bike, it's 1 and 1/4 turns... Yours may differ. If you're having trouble keeping track of how many turns you've gone, put a gob of greas...

Cool... easy enough then. Replace clip, check rings, clean every surface as if you were going to eat off it. Lube the rings and the cylinder insides. Seat the gasket, insert piston into cylinder, add head, insert bolts and torque to setting (see your owner's manual). check, gap, and insert plug, con...

The top of your piston is scratched/dented? Did you find the "offending" particle that's doing all this damage? If it's managed to drop back down into your crank housing, you may end up just coughing it back up on top of it another time. Is there a dent in your head (cylinder head, not you...

Depends on what's happening... I lost a "kind" of compression when my reed valve snapped. This meant that any fuel I sucked thru the carb, got shoved back out thru it when the piston moved down (instead of pushing it to the top of the cylinder). This was an easy fix.. fish out the busted b...

Oh, and if that's not it... Check your muffler... Never hurts to burn that out once and a while... You can be getting really good plug results, but the exhaust just isn't clearing out properly... Another form of no/low flow.

Fast without side covers... Slow with side covers...

This is kind of halfarsed guessing on my part... but have you checked your air filter?

Could it be that you're cutting off air flow somehow when you shove those covers on, but not enough to make it look like you're running rich?

Anyone had problems with their vaccuum valve on fuel tank?

I'm just curious... but when I picked up my scoot from it's long days in storage, one of the first things I had to do was un-stick the vaccuum valve. It was all gunked up (though I think that's because the guy who had it before put lots of fuel additives into the thing, not realizing that a bottle o...

Use the wrong tools for the job!

The very first time I had to take off the outer front pulley from my af05e engine, I took a strap wrench, and looped it around the outside pulley, and snugged it up. I then took a rachet, made a "cheater bar" by putting the rachet handle inside a 2 foot length of pipe. I stood over the pul...

Disc Brakes / Stronger Drums

Has anyone here managed to put a disc brake (or "better" drums) on their scoot following an engine upgrade?

There's probably ~nothing wrong~ with the intake... However, I prefer dry paper filters to the oiled foam filters. Additionally, it seems like every time I have to do anything to the carb, the kickstart/drivetrain, anything under the air cowl... The Air box has to come off. Granted, I should at some...

Re-Routing your air cleaner

I've been thinking about getting rid of the stock air cleaner on my elite E... has anyone run a flexi-hose from the back of the carb, into the under seat storage compartment and put a filter there? I'm thinking it'd be 1) quieter 2) less likely to suck up rain 3) less of a pain in the * to get the a...
