The valve is a vaccum shutoff. When you suck on the smaller hose, gas pours out of the bigger hose.

Thats about right. It takes about 14.4 to charge a 12 volt electrical system.

I bet the low beam burned out and they just used the high beam after that until it burned out.

d*** you're good! Its a '74 TS185. I traded a guitar amp that needed work for a Suzuki that "needed work". Cleaned the carb and off I went.

My Spree feels like a toy after ripping around on the 185.

Hehehe. Mine is a little darker metallic grey.

Here go:

Note the matching half shell army style helmet

You should look into a nice metallic red if you want to keep it somewhat stock looking but still jazz it up a little.

I doubt polishing is going to do much for old faded plastic. I would just sand it a little and go over it with a few coats of paint. I love running errands and stuff on my Spree. Check out my post on scooter trunks. I plan on having myself some more storage space with my next paycheck. I want to get...

If you're only getting a few drops of gas when you suck on the vaccum line then it sounds like the petcock is bad (the fuel valve)

If you get a good stream then its probably ok.

Why couldnt Honda just give us a manual fuel shut off and manual choke? It would be SO much easier.

I havent tested the paints long term durability but I think it was recommended a few times on these forums.

For pics I usually upload them to like imageshack and then copy paste the url that it gives you into the post. I'll put some up later when I get off work.

I just used Duplicolor from the automotive isle at Walmart. I went with gunmetal grey. It was a quick, cheesy 20 minute job and costed 5 bux. Looks pretty good though. I'll put up some pics later if you want.

No, the valve just opens when vaccum is applied to it. It just opens the gas line.

Try sucking on the vaccum line with the other line hooked up to the carb still. That should fill the fuel bowl in the carb. Now try starting it. If it still doesnt start then your problem lies somewhere else.
