Re: SA50 AF16 to AF05 Swap

Af16 to af05.... I got the bike for $25(clean vin) and the engine has 2200 mi on it. If it is a nonvariated model I thought you could take the boss off the af16 and use it's vari.

SA50 AF16 to AF05 Swap

I need some sage expertise here: I have an 89 Elite LX with an af16 that has 7800 miles on it, low compression and a busted gearbox. I bought a parts bike with a good engine and low miles for a swap, but it's an 89 elite S with an af05. Everything looks like it bolts up, however I'm noticing two maj...

Re: won't go over 15

Everything is lined up correctly. The variator had dents in the back plate that holds everything in(not the ramp). It wasn't intrusive and was like that when I pulled it off. I used a makeshift puller(ac pulley tool) that only pulled on the screws. Everything went back in the way it went out includi...

won't go over 15

I have an 88 elite, and I just replaced the rollers, and belt. I was able to drive it around town, but it was progressively bogging down and stalling at idle speed. Now after the roller and belt replacement the dang thing won't go over 15 mph, and idles even worse. Should I look into just replacing ...

Hey, I'm still new to working on scooters. I haven't done anything to the clutch yet, only the belt and rollers. I'm just not sure what to look at more closely. It sounds like the pads are the first place to go to.

Okay, new belt and rollers, but have 2 problems

88 sa50 with 8000 miles The engine runs well, and it starts on the first kick.(when the kickstart wants to engage) When it started bogging down, I replaced the rollers in the variator(flat spots) and also the drive belt. 1: It still won't go over 15. I'm wondering if I need to either replace the spr...

I have it fixed. It was just like you said. I put a washer in, and I'm good to go.

I pulled it apart and oiled it. It sounded fine until the snap ring moved on it during use. The kickstart pedal dropped down as well when I drove it around the block... Possible to just put washers in and shim the kickstart on the outside of the cover?

Idle noise...

I'm having trouble with idle noise on my 88 sa50. She still starts on the first kick, but just gives a ringing, grind noise. I have isolated the sound to the kickstart. When I pull out on the kickstart pedal lightly, the sound gets very soft. I'm wondering if I should be looking at pinion gears, or ...
