Dunno...I've been painting all day. Seems like retirement is more work than work...lol.

I'll let you know however it ran for years with whatever was in between the cover and case without me doing anything.

Re: Back again for your help.

Thank you MrJumps. K...I'll take off the cover as you suggest. The hydrolock was when it was cranking over and it would suddenly stop cranking....as if hitting a wall. That's why I though of timing. If the spark is too advanced suddenly it would stop the piston in it's track. Dunno if this is the pr...

Back again for your help.

My wife and I both have 85 Sprees. About 3 years ago mine stopped running. I left it sit. Then 2 years ago my wife's stopped running. Just today I started to work on hers .... finally narrowed it down to the Bystarter and switched it with the one from my non running one. Her's now runs fine again. I...

Re: New oil pump differs from old one.

Nice pics Mr. Mousewheels. And you're correct .... it looks like the SB50. You can plainly see the "spacer" that slides up and down in your pic. Apparently they sent me the wrong part. I'll try to force out the spacer and put a plate or washer over the large hole. Thanks very much, Grandpa.

Re: New oil pump differs from old one.

I got it from a place called Babbitts in Michigan. A long time ago....lol. Probably last year. Finally I got around to attempting to install it this afternoon. I paid just over $100 for a brand new one. Oh, and I lied. This spacer thing I'm referring to does move up and down but won't come out. I co...

New oil pump differs from old one.

I bought a new oil pump for my 85 Spree. It differs from the old one. The old one has the single mounting bolt going through the flange of the pump and into the engine bolt hole. The new one has a much larger hole through the flange and in this spot is some kinda spacer. It slides up and down and wi...

Re: Piston Ring help

Thanks to both of you. And a super thanks for the manual link. The manual shows a clear pic of what I need to do. Now to actually do it without breaking anything again...lol.

Gramps

Edit...Oops, I forgot to tell you the scooter. It's a 1985 Spree.

Piston Ring help

I broke the old rings trying to put the cylinder back on so I bought more. The package has the two rings and a "wiggly" thing. The online (Babbits) diagram show the two rings and the "wiggly" thing all together but doesn't show where Mr. Wiggly goes. It appears as if it may go be...

Thanks Mr. Mousewheels.

Tazland doesn't appear to be around ... can you suggest a Honda dealer from where I can order a pump?

Re: Hey...long time no need your help...now I do

-- If curious -- Take your pump out with driveshaft intact, leaving the input line connected. Place over a container (or better -- two) so you can isolate if it is leaking from the shaft seal, or straight through the pump to from input to output Most excellent. Thanks for that pic and the suggestio...

Re: Hey...long time no need your help...now I do

Empty the crank case you have to anyway. Oil pumps can fail and dump oil in the crank case while the scooter sits. Have ya ever taken an oil pump apart? Is there a diaphram inside that starts to leak? I just thought of something also....last year the scoot started to "chatter" when I was ...

Re: Hey...long time no need your help...now I do

Thanks everyone. But I have to back up a bit. Last night I was working on it in my basement under poor light and I simply missed seeing them. This morning I looked again and sure enough they're in place. So back to the drawing board. I explained the symptoms are that it would turn over then bog way ...

Hey...long time no need your help...now I do

I rebuilt my 85 or 86 Spree some years back. It's run fine till recently when it started to NOT start but turn over until it wanted to start...then it would lock up. Just tonight I took it apart...and apparently the piston pin lock clips are missing. I know I put them in a few years back. In fact th...

Re: Can a chain slip over a tooth?

Thanks all. I was going to try an impact wrench ... but I thought I'd ask on here first. Now I will. The starter works well with no weird noises ... and the noise/shudder only happens from take off to about 6 or 7 mph...then it's fine. Thanks again, I'll keep you posted once I get back to it. Got a ...
