Sounds like you may have poped a crank seal out see if the one under your variator is popped out or it has a hole in it.

Could this cause low compression as well? If so I think I know what my next move is.

So I spent some time on it today and went right after the reed valve as I have not ordered the tool to pull the crank pulley off yet. haha never mind it was my hill billy rig job on the other side of the crank. The variator was spinning on the crank shaft because it sheared off the key way I put in it. Im now making my own key way to get me by.
