Re: Newbie with Elite Eighty
Don't remove the engine cowling it's there to provide the engine with cooling air from the fan. The filter is in the gas tank above the petcock.

Re: ***NEW TAX*** Cook County IL "Non-Retailer Use" tax
Ok they want to make money but why according to the ordinance do retailers pay 1% and you are paying over 40% with the rate they impose based on age without even taking into account price? New York DMV has been collecting sales tax for as long as I can remember but 40%, wow!

All stock 95' Elite 80. Mostly WOT, after averaging about 5 fill ups several times came up with right around 100 mpg.

Re: 3 wheeled honda scooter
My brother got a two wheeled version of it back in the day. It was kind of fun to ride, pretty efficient but not fast. You could go slow pretty good by using the kicker, but you went faster if you just pushed with your foot. I would presume the three wheeler would be even slower.

Re: Elite 80 Warm up
I have a 96 Elite80, I warm it up just until it doesn't sputter when bumping the throttle slightly in the driveway (0 seconds - 2 minutes) depending on ambient temperatures ie summer or winter and then off I go. If I get caught by a light within a couple of blocks it may stall once, if not I'm good ...

Re: What brand of gear oil should I use for my gears?
Thank you odinxxix for the first response that actually puts to light what actually started this whole discussion. I was starting to wonder what in the world the seller of this lube intended it to be properly used for. Your answer explains it, I googled and looked up the transmission you referred to...

Re: 1990 honda elite ch80 not going as fast as it should?
Final drive oil is unrelated to the crank case oil. I called it the final drive manual calls it "Final Reduction" link to this page see section #9 http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewto ... =11&t=8555

Re: 1990 honda elite ch80 not going as fast as it should?
Regular gas is fine no need to spend extra. I would add changing the oil in the final drive, if it's low you'll kill the gears fast. I know that's how I got mine and I ended up replacing the gears and bearings. Synthetic 10-30W is the right stuff not gear oil.

Re: Can you believe this!!!!???
The Spree Specials always incite the unknowing into thinking they are a collectors item worth way more than they actually are. I doesn't hurt when people make bogus additions to Wikipedia like this (check it yourself) "I read it on the internet, it must be true!" "*The Shasta White/L...

Re: Honda Elite 80 Cold Start
This is a topic of heated debate with most people siding with OEM being the only prudent way to go. I will go on record as being someone who did buy a so called Chinese clone part from from an E-bay seller. It was new not used and came in an unlabeled white box (definetly not OEM), cost me about $30...

Re: Aftermarket By-starter thoughts
It came in a small white cardboard box w/o any hint of Honda markings and there was no claim as to the origin of it so I presume it was aftermarket.

Re: Aftermarket By-starter thoughts
I've been using an Ebay bystarter on my Elite 80 for about 3 years now it fit without mod and never gave me any trouble. Your results may vary. I very rarely hear anyone say anything good about them, so I thought you should know.

Re: Honda Elite 80 - Starting problem
Still may be dead "batteries" like you say the new one may not be fully charged. Did you check the voltage under load? You should check the voltage while cranking (or trying) I'm guessing it will drop down drastically. If it starts normally with a jump there's not much else it could be, ot...

Re: Now Iv'e seen it all!!!
I'll never look at a Wikipedia article the same way again. The guy quotes a Wiki article as a source in his ad to prove the value of his product. If you go back to the Wiki article about Sprees and check the history you find that on May 19th less than two months ago the line "and is very valuab...
