I'm still not getting it. How can your bike NOT run on the proper 2 stroke oil? The reason why you're smoking excessively is because you're using the wrong oil to begin with, you're not supposed to run straight SAE 30 4 stroke oil in a 2 stroke engine. It's like coming here to ask "hey I tried ...

1. Compression check. What's the compression pressure of the cylinder? 2. What symptoms occur when you use correct 2 stroke oil? What oil did you use (that DID NOT work) and what oil are you currently using to make it work? SAE 30 oil for cars aren't formulated to work correctly for 2 strokes. 2 str...

You have a lean fuel issue. All of what you described points in that direction. I would suspect that the carb needs a serious cleaning, if you've cleaned it already once, you'll need to do it again better. 1. Remove airbox, filter and leave it open. 2. Inspect the connections between the carb and in...

Great to hear things are working out. 2 stroke oils from what I'm told (directly from manufacturers) are designed to operate within a certain range of temperatures. Too low a temp would cause it to smoke more than usual forming sludge, too high a temp would cause it to form hard carbon deposits (for...

I don't like to work on bikes that don't smoke at all, it's just a personal thing but I like knowing the idea that the oil is doing its job. A lot of bikes in Hawaii smoke a lot (mainly due to their use of Castor oil) but it's safer to know that oil's burning than not seeing smoke wondering if you f...

I don't know what it's like in Michigan but I'm guessing it snows unlike Hawaii. Keep in mind that even during this season (where it rains and will be the coolest at night), I have to set the carb up a little differently for day and night riding (unlike the summer). For us with Keihin/Koso/OKO carbs...

Wow thanks for the praise, the information is available through people who's worked in the trade and with the gift of the internet, it's available to everyone as long as you're decent with using search engines. I'm not a mechanical engineer nor a moped/scooter scientist so I can't explain in too muc...

A lean condition can be caused by: 1. Too much air. An example of this would be going from a higher elevation to sea level which raises air density. Riding from a hot climate to a very cold climate will also do the same. In some cases the difference between day and night riding will do this as well....

Wow Dac, thanks for the undeserved praise but I appreciate it, I'm not a genius so I have to understand it in the most simplest of ways so my meager brain can learn from it. For those who want the short answer: Rich means either too much fuel or not enough air. Lean means either too much air or not ...

The actual numeric value of 1000 is less meaningful than it is about it's stiffness in relation to a 1500 or a 2000 center spring. A 1000 is normally 1 step stiffer than stock, however each brand's quality (and rating) are different. Some of the cheaper ones will fatigue sooner while others (being u...

Well I guess I have to say it like this but keep in mind that I don't like taking shortcuts. Normally for something like that I will split the case and remove the crankshaft all together. If something requires a complete tear down, I feel that I might as well do it right, but then again I know of so...

Re: Taking a spree down hills @ over 40mph

1. My spree idles kinda high, and without giving it some gas it starts to pull slightly like it wants to move, and if i let it go on its own it will slowly speed up to about 20mph without giving it any gas. ( i have tried adjusting the screws, but if i take it out 1/16 of a turn it the revs lower a...

Put the bike on the center stand and observe what happens when you turn the throttle. * while taking off is a clutch-related problem. I sometimes see this when the clutch bell overheats on some bikes. Take off your rear pulley assembly, remove the clutch bell and remove the torque nut that holds dow...
