So, been a while...

Sorry it's been so long since my last post, been busy with life, mothballed the Spree for a month and a half. I recently got around to getting a carb gasket kit and new intake gaskets (along with the proper spark plug, not just an "equivalent"). After installing all of these, if I choke th...

Hmmm...scratch that, new problem. About 2 hours after I took the bike out, I wanted to show it to my 3 year old. Problem was, I couldn't get the d*** thing started. I hadn't touched anything since I rode the bike 2 hours before, and it was running fine when I shut it off. I tried to choke it at the ...

Ok guys, got home, put the carb on. After sucking on the petcock and filling the bowl with gas, it fired right up. I let the bystarter engage and the idle die down, and it kept running. Took it out for a spin, and it runs amazing!

As I took the carb to work, I cannot send pictures (maybe when I get home, we'll see how the kids are doing). But, I'll try to explain in words. I take a nice, 8 LED light and the carb into a dark room. I then hold the LED light right up to where the throttle cable screws into the carb. I turn the c...

Carb is officially clean, let's see if it works now!

I can officially see a wee bit of light through my idle jet. It took 6 times, but I can confidently say that my carburetor is clean. Now, I just need to hook it up to the Spree and see how she runs. I'll keep you guys posted, you've been an amazing help.

Yes, a dirty air filter can definitely limit your top speed....as for riding it at full throttle...I don't know, noiseguy, kenny, keithw, or bear should know that answer....

I work in East Lansing, near Michigan State University. I see scooters all over the place here. About 3 months ago, I saw a nice, black little Spree. That's it. Haven't seen one since I was maybe 12 years old, when my dad bought one for us kids to beat on.

New spark plug, as well. Also, while you have the muffler off checking for carbon-congestion, check the exhaust port in the cylinder, as well. Also, the petcock may need to be cleaned out, check fuel filter. A new air filter, properly oiled will be critical to get it running right and not too lean.

Oh, ok, this is easy. Your idle jet is still clogged. They're a serious PITA to clean. It took me officially 4 times cleaning with spray carb-cleaner and compressed air, and then another 2 times cleaning with ucky dip-style carb cleaner and compressed air. As of writing this, I still have yet to rea...

If you're having trouble setting the idle, I'm going to assume that you waited a good 5 minutes for the bike to warm up (so the bystarter can engage). If you RPMs are still bouncing around, your carb may still be dirty, or you may possibly have an air leak somewhere in your intake (usually somewhere...

yup. Now, put the float in place, making sure the little float valve (rubber-tipped piece of metal) goes into the fuel supply hole.
