Re: 1994 Elite $300
Whoops- my bad. I thought the af16's started in 94. They did. This scooter is an elite LX, made from 1988-90. So it is an af05 variated motor. I think the problem is that the link in this thread is the same link listed in this thread. The SA/LX Elite was made 1989-1993 with AF05 powerplant similar ...

I love my scooters and I'm fully macho hetero. Ask my wife!! :drama: As far as mopeds, I know one foxy chick, all woman, who drives a m...

Re: How rare is the shasta white/lollipop green color scheme?
I haven't researched this, but I'm pretty sure that's a Spree thing and yes, it is rare. I have a printout of years and colors somewhere around here, I'll try to find it and zero in on it.

Re: Now THIS is a hunting scooter.
Mouse, I really wonder about anybody trying to drive 30mph on a logging trail or through the woods, but you do make a point. It wouldn't work for still hunting, and it would be noisy going in, and maybe a little smoke and odor. However, deer are used to loggers and wood cutters with chainsaws, so th...

Re: Is this guy stupid, or what?
I believe Spree engines rotate clockwise, viewed from the belt side. Single speed gearing converts that rotation to the desired forward direction. Hence, Spree starters spin in the direction opposite from SE/05 and 16 engines. That didn't sound right so I did the research on this, and Wheelz proves...

Re: Need some advice before I buy
Yes, you are correct. The Spree was discontinued in the 80's. Either the seller has the year wrong or its possibly an Elite E which has same motor as the Spree. Either way, rebuild is a piece of cake. I mechaniced for a living on cars and trucks for years, and was scared on my first scooter rebuild....

Re: HID Lights on a spree.
The HID setup is Hella bright ! Too bright for most people. You make a good point. We have a guy in our town who hooked up the bright lights on the rollbar on his truck. It is so blinding, oncoming traffic is traumatized. What good does it do if people can see you, but so blinded, they swerve and r...

Re: Pibbs' Seizure
A soft seize drops RPM instantly to 0, resulting in a skid mark on the pavement as well as your Depends. Is that 100% the pattern? I experienced what I thought was a soft seize last fall, but it was just a slow fizzle to death, No skids on the street or BVD's. Low compression. Winter time hit and o...

Here's another one of my bikes below. That red flange looking thing sticking through a slot on the underside body cover has the VIN stamped on it: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3089/3125858728_33dac496a7.jpg Do you have a pic of your bike? No disrespect meant, but I'm curious why the VIN isn't mor...

Brad, don't you just love those wise cracks from Alabama and Hawaii? It was minus eight degrees Sunday morning. Supposed to break the thaw mark today, first time in a week. So Saturday, (It was only minus three that morning), I say to my wife we need to go Walmart for certain items. She sez, "w...

Re: The Scooter Doctor says hi.
Nobody can tell me where the VIN is on my Dio, and I can't identify my Jog. Actually it's a Euro, but previous owner called it a Jog. Are you kidding? If it is a 'real' Dio then take a look at the bottom center frame rail where the VIN should be: A REAL DIO has the gas tank mounted under the floorb...

Re: The Scooter Doctor says hi.
Gee Motomech, I wish you lived in my town. I'd spend all my time at your place. I pretty well have the total Honda/Yamaha scooter market tied up in our town of 4000, and only a handful of Chinese bikes in town. If it hadn't been for this forum, I would have given up long ago. But it seems I can alwa...

Amazing. I've got a pile of new parts and kits on my workbench, and my scooters just sit there. Maybe the key is to put them in my pocket?Shelton wrote: I know it is hard to believe but i gained 9 mph just from having the parts in my pocket !!

Re: new guy!!! new wheels??
Also remember that 70% of the braking is done with the front brakes That may apply to the auto and small truck, but can you say it applies to a scooter/cycle which allows the rider to control front and rear separately? Also weight distribution differs between a car and a scooter. This 70% factor is...

Re: How to quiet a 1986 Spree
duckcove, if you can still pull a bow, you're doing fine. I turn 65 this year. Doctor signed off on crossbow waiver several years ago. Didn't help. Can't shoot what you can't see. I'm either too noisy, too visible or too stinky... or all of the above. Your "closed celled foam" lining...
