I believe Spree engines rotate clockwise, viewed from the belt side. Single speed gearing converts that rotation to the desired forward direction. Yes, you are correct. The Spree was discontinued in the 80's. Either the seller has the year wrong or its possibly an Elite E which has same motor as the Spree.
