Re: oh dear, there's a piece of mysterious metal in my flywheel

Took it apart today. It's definitely the clutch plates. In retrospect I'm amazed it was running too (however poorly) Pictures provided more for plot resolution/schadenfruede than information: http://j.photos.cx/SSPX0581-4e5.jpg http://j.photos.cx/SSPX0580-10e.jpg and the shrapnel: http://j.photos.cx...

Re: oh dear, there's a piece of mysterious metal in my flywheel

Dang really? How was it running at all (however poorly) with an exploded clutch?

oh dear, there's a piece of mysterious metal in my flywheel

So after a long hiatus in riding my 85 Spree (was getting poor vacuum on my carb which in turn killed most of my starter system), I give it a ride and it's feeling a little odd. It's not going very fast and the engine appears to be shaking. I pulled it over in a safe place to have a looksie as my fi...

Re: 86 Spree will not start.

Okay the problem is most certainly not a lack of gasket. It's run fine without a gasket for about a year now already and nothing changed when I loosened/removed the cover. So the starter motor is definitely the problem then? Again, I've looked all around the technical manual and haven't found anythi...

Re: 86 Spree will not start.

It's clicking once.

So when you say dead starter do you mean the starter cylenoid? I haven't seen anything referred to in the tech manual as just "starter".

Re: 86 Spree will not start.

Loosened the cover, nothing. Removed the cover and gave it a quick try, starter spins once or twice and then nothing. It's worth noting that this scooter worked like a dream a mere two weeks ago, and then one day it just decided not to start any more, so if anyone knows of a problem that manifests i...

Re: 86 Spree will not start.

Greetings: Just a hunch here, but try this: Loosen your belt cover bolts about a turn and a half. Try again, hopefully your relay isn' toast. If it is, a relay's a relay. You can go to Napa with yours and ask them to scrounge. You may have to jury-rig a connection for the test, but at least it'll c...

Re: 86 Spree will not start.

So I bought a new Starter Relay today and put it in after freshly charging the battery yet again. The engine turned over a couple of times very slowly, and then went back to the relay just clicking when I pushed the start button. Additionally, as I was pressing the button, I noticed smoke coming out...

Re: 86 Spree will not start.

Sorry, should've been more specific. Brand new fully charged battery that I cranked a few hundred times and fully charged again. Currently not doing anything with or without sparkplug. You just push the button and it makes a clicking sound. Doesn't have a kickstart, perhaps now would be the time to ...

Re: 86 Spree will not start.

Battery is brand spanking new. Compression was tested about a month ago at 120psi.

If i go to the honda powersports dealership and say "I need a new starter relay for a honda spree" will they have one, or am I bound for the buying/selling subforum?

Re: 86 Spree will not start.

Given that there's already a thread for this and I've got the same symptoms, best not to start a new one I suppose. My 85 spree that has given me much love (and is also my only form of transportation at the moment) decided not to start a little while back. Things I have done: Cleaned carb. Replaced ...

Videonut wrote:hmmm take the bowl off and go to the hardware store and find a screw that fits and there ya go

The original screw was odd looking though. It had a thread in the middle and a non-threaded pointy bit at the end.

(I am paranoid about ruining my carb with incorrect equipment)

missing carb drain screw

So on my way home tonight, I run over a bump and my spree stalls out and refuses to start back up. I can smell fuel whenever I try to start it, so I have a look at the carb, and lo and behold, my drain screw is gone. I gave it the ol' college try retracing my steps to where I hit the bump, but the s...

Re: TBPlayer's Question

The spark plug is located @ the top of the cylinder head. Start at the airbox then if you notice on the side of the airbox there is one thick black wire leading to the spark plug. Hope this helps Got it! Just let the cylinder air out and it's running fine now. Greetings: Uh, maybe. But wouldn't it ...

where on earth is the spark plug

I know, I know, idiot newbie question. This forum has given me lots of help over the past few months, but apparently my stupefication is thought to be too obvious to explain. My 85 Spree's cylinder is flooded with oil, I need to get it out, and then everything should run fine. In order to get it out...
