Either the clutch or the belt is slipping. Open up the sidecover and measure the belt, it should be 14.5mm or wider. If it is looking good, your clutch is the next suspect. I would pursue that before the muffler burn. Basically you put the muffler in a fire, burn it till no more smoke is coming out...

I have a 89 Honda se50 (sa50) And when I'm at a stop sign, red light etc... and want to go. It takes a while to accelerate and go with the traffic.
