Either the clutch or the belt is slipping. Open up the sidecover and measure the belt, it should be 14.5mm or wider. If it is looking good, your clutch is the next suspect. I would pursue that before the muffler burn. Basically you put the muffler in a fire, burn it till no more smoke is coming out...

Do you hear the engine revving up high, or does the engine stay pretty mild and quiet the entire time? It's rev's pretty high. Just to get to start going and start moving can be a real pain in the *. oliveskate How many miles do you have on your bike? if its over 4000miles or 6400Km you should look...

I have a 89 Honda se50 (sa50) And when I'm at a stop sign, red light etc... and want to go. It takes a while to accelerate and go with the traffic. To go around 1-30 take's a while (too long), and it's really really slow, but once I get to 30-60 it's fast. (THIS IS IN KM/H'S) When i first got it, go...
