cracked muffler on sa50p

i have the restricted muffler on my 96 sa50p. Is there any issues with riding around with a cracked muffler? It cracked around the joint between the thin tube and where it widens. I want to get a new one but in the meantime... It's a small hole and a trickle of smoke exits there

figured it out. one of the wires came loose from whatever the spark plug goes to. I also figured out that the smoke from the center of the scooter is coming from a hole in the muffler.

Re: bought a 1994 honda elite sa50, help with some issues

I tried the spark test, taking out the plug reconnecting the cap and then kicking the scooter and looking for a spark is that right? There was no spark. The plug was fairly wet. The plug looks nice and new, but i'll get a new one anyway. any other tests i should do?

Re: bought a 1994 honda elite sa50, help with some issues

I got an airfilter, I cleaned the carb, put a second thing of sea foam in (i went through a tank of gas), and adjusted the idle screw. Last night my scooter ran great, but i've noticed a problem. I start it at first, no problem. Then if i make stops, each time it's hard to start (i need to give it m...

Re: bought a 1994 honda elite sa50, help with some issues

update: so I cleaned my carburetor, and it's running much better. It no longer goes only like 5mph for stuttering when you first ride it thankfully. It does occassionally cut out while maintaining speed, but I assume that's just more gunk somewhere in there. A few additional problems have surfaced. ...

Re: Air filter question.

Just to clarify then, to replace the air filter on an elite sa50 you need a 27mm airfilter, and would probably need to increase the jet size if running it without a box correct? Would size 80 work, or would it depend on the air filter? Does anyone have examples of airfilters whose housing and size w...

Re: bought a 1994 honda elite sa50, help with some issues

Ok I got a dremel used at a reasonable price. What bit do people use? Carbide one just to bore it out? Sorry if I'm dense, but I'm still confused as to why to use an impact wrench. The metal plate (clutch? variator?) spins freely. When I put a wrench on it, it spins in the direction I move the wrenc...

Re: free/cheap scooters that I've come upon

If you part it out, be careful with the plastics. The side tabs and bolt tabs are critical to their value. And if in good shape, (not worried about paint), I would be interested. Why is that? MY present 96 sa50 is lacking most, just zip tied together. You mean the tabs holding the plastic panels to...

Re: free/cheap scooters that I've come upon

it has all the parts. He just took out the gas tank to clean it. maybe it was leaking or something he said. What would be a good price then? 50$? The SUN-L looks exactly like that. What parts would you want? It seems crazy to scrap a perfectly good bike. I'm not sure what order everything is in sinc...

free/cheap scooters that I've come upon

Just looking for advice. Today 2 scooters dropped in my lap. One is a 88 sa50j (elite lx) that isn't running for like 85$. The guy said he took out the gas tank to clean it and never bothered to put it back in but it was running and maybe just needs a cleaned spark plug and carburetor. I'm tempted t...

Re: bought a 1994 honda elite sa50, help with some issues

You have to grind out the washer in the exhaust, using a dremel or some such. You have to take the rear half cover off of the trans side first, then the front part, then use an impact wrench with a 17mm socket, and get the nut off of the crankshaft, I have neither a dremel nor an impact wrench, whi...

Re: bought a 1994 honda elite sa50, help with some issues

Sorry if I'm dense. What's a pid airfilter, and where do I get one? googling turns up strange results that resemble parts suppliers. My local honda dealer only appears to have the housing and the like for the air cleaner unit. Also, I attempted to do this http://www.scootertherapy.com/Eliteclutchpag...
