I suggest you disconnect the CDI from the electical connector block and test the the Black/Red wire voltage when spinning over the engine. This is the exciter coil wire providing spark. When I tested mine I showed 150+ volts. If you do not get a reasonable reading at this location, back up and disco...

My Spree would also start, run briefly, then die. I had a new air filter so, for me, the air filter was not the cause of this symptom. I had a blocked idle jet which when cleaned out cured my problem. I subsequently had the same problem and again found the idle jet blocked. With new lines and a fuel...

The only way I have been able to test and see that my idle jet is clear is to use a small (like a mini-mag) flashlight. I put the flashlight lense against the top of the carb (where the cable enters) and hold my thumb over the main jet orifice (so I am not distracted by light coming through there). ...

Slide the needle onto the slot of the float. Slide the pivot pin into the float pivot arm (without letting the needle slide out). I know. You need 3 small hands to do this properly. Holding the float, delicately insert the needle into the seat while making sure the pivot pin lays into the groove on ...

runs well until 20 MPH (CDI)
My '84 ran well up to 20 mph, where it sputtered and so on. If I eased off the throttle it would run great. Up hill, downhill or on level ground. Made no difference. Installed a different CDI unit from the junk pile and she runs great. 28 mph on the sidewalk and, I expect, better when I get it on th...
