I'm having a similar problem. I need to thin the herd, but each bike has a particular purpose.

Re: Doing what i never thought i would...

I love the Tomos. I had a tricked-out one back in the day. Mine was chrome, and I put an expansion chamber on it (custom made). It gets better. I spoked aluminum bicycle rims into the stock hubs and put snake belly tires on it. This way it revved quick (less rotating mass). Then I had a full fairing...

Re: IT DIES!!!

Bummer. I guess I don't understand why the external failures you're describing could cause the engine to sputter and die. Perhaps if the crank snapped in such a position that the ignition pick-up etc., doesn't get a chance to do its thing anymore that might explain. I'm still new to these to underst...

Re: 84 Spree - adding kick start gasket question

I just did the same conversion on my '85 and I didn't have a gasket. Everything was fine. I did buy a new bushing and clip though - and the spring since it was only $10 (all yet to be installed as everything's fine as is).

Re: HARD STARTING COLD AND WARM

Pop the float bowl and look in the bowl for a microscopic passageway (I missed it many times). That's like a pilot jet passageway for the electric choke (bystarter). It was the problem with both of mine.

Re: Morals buy and sell (what's your opinion?)

I treat others like I'd expect to be treated. Sometimes it's hard to meet my standards, but 10 days is out of line. Most of my buying experiences are good too. It's a bit of a leap of faith.

Re: what year did honda sprees have kick starts?

To that point, my 1985 didn't have one, but I bought a basket case '86 and switched the side cover and inner gears. Kick starter is a nice fallback if all else fails.

Re: Hauling Scoots

Yeah, that was my first thought, however seems like it might be too small to hold 2 scoots. I may buy and try. HF is pretty good about returns. If anyone knows where a hoop style could be procured, or where I might by hoops that I could mount to one of these, that'd work.

Hauling Scoots

Hey folks, I know this subjects been covered before, but I'm looking for something I can plug into the receiver on my truck (like a platform) that might possibly allow me to haul 2 scooters (Spree & Aero). Ideally it's something made for this, but if someone has an easy and cheap solution that c...

They're Multiplying

So I saw an ad on Craigslist and couldn't resist. Got these 2 Pocket Bikes for $50 for the pair. The red one runs good. The yellow one has a bad pullcord. A few observations: They're 49cc Expansion chamber almost looks like it could be grafted to a Spree Bike has a Variator Alloy Rims and Tubeless t...

Re: new forum member restoring 1985 spree

OldRock, I think you're going to be beating a dead horse trying to improve bottom-end pull. I've got the Aero and the Spree and both run fantastic, but the fixed gearing on the Spree provides "middle-of-the-road" gearing sacrificing a little from the bottom and a little from the top relati...

Re: Can anyone confirm this is a Honda scooter?

I had an old Honda Supercub that looks like that. Mine was a 63 I believe and I bought it from a retirement home (they used them at Leisure World for Sr.s to get around) for $70 and rode it home. It was like brand new. It had a white leg fairing. I also had a '69 CT90 that looks the same, but not as...

Re: new forum member restoring 1985 spree

The scoot is easily getting 25mph on a flat road now. It slows down to about 15-18 on upgrades and gets up to 30 or so on slight downhill. I am already thinking maybe need to be on the lookout for a 2nd scoot so the wife and I can both ride around town. That's about mine. It's getting faster the mo...

Re: new forum member restoring 1985 spree

The emulsion tube comes out the bottom, by tapping on the exposed portion from the top. What I used for wire was I stripped a piece of 12 guage wire and used one of the strands. It probably took 12 strands to make the big wire, so one strand was pretty small, but had a spine.

Re: new forum member restoring 1985 spree

Take the main jet out and then you can knock the emulsion tube out by going down the top of the carburetor (unscrewing the cap) with the backside of a small screwdriver. Cleaning that made a big difference, but convince me you tended to the small hole on the bowl. I couldn't pass wire through the pi...
