Motor rotation! There's two ways to change the rotation. One is to reverse the polarity, but that's not easy to do without rewiring the brushes. But if you put the case on 180 degrees off, the North/South permanent magnet poles are reversed. So the motor runs backwards, same as swapping the wires. M...

Check out in the Advanced technical docs on this site. Theres a book by Jennings that talks about 2 stroke tuning. Included is a section on reed valves. I think the metal ones are generally stainless steel, but don't have a clue what alloy or other details you'd want. IThe Jennings book covers the s...

A 1:1 diagram might help. I can trace around an SA50 (pre-94) type starter plate and mail or fax it to you to compare. I have a photo of the SB50 starter. Another difference is that the electrical connection exits pointing away from the case. Wonder why they did that? Check out the starter wire rout...

From noiseguy: I think that, alternately, you can buy brushes for the actual motor. If someone can find a good source for these I'll post it in tech docs. This is a pretty common issue. --- I don't know about Elite SB50 brushes, but I've disassembled Mitsuba built Spree, TG50 Gyro, Aero and and a pr...

Previous question --- Kool, sounds great. But what are the major differences between the 2 bikes? ---- I think that was in reference to Spree vs Elite I'm the newbie to Spree/Elites, but have been checking into them - mostly from here! Spree has a fixed transmission, most Elites have a variator. Eli...

If any key including a screwdriver works on the seat lock, it may not be helpful in getting a key for the ignition. The ignition switch does have alpha numeric codes for the key. Some dealers can cut or order a key from the code. -- Here's text from a Gyro group... > I've lost the key to my '86 Gyro...

Thanks guys, you are completely correct. I don't intend to leave the deck screw/wood 'nut' in place, but was soooo itching to see how the scooter ran, and had already gone through several problems to just to get it running. Ever get that I'm going to find everything that needs fixing determination? ...

Hi, I recently bought a used scooter with a stripped out carb thread too. I needed a really quick fix just to see what else needed work. Got a long deck screw, slipped a piece of wood behind the carb tab and tighted it up. That temporarally fixed the lean problem. In the case of your glue, could it ...

When I go back to your original post --- I have an '84 spree that hasn't been run in several years. When I attempt to start it the electric starter is real slow and sometimes stops after a few rotations.... (sometimes the wires start smoking too) --- Then to your finding that the engine turns over e...

Here's something you could check before replacing that seal I've had 2 Gyro's with leaky oil pumps. But on the Gyro, the oil pump drive shaft is outside the crankshaft area. A leaky seal would leak into the transmission gears/wet clutch, instead of the crankcase. My oil pumps leaked oil into the fro...
