Here is a Wiki I wrote on the subject years ago over at Scootdawg.

Re: Iowa Spree Lands in New Mexico

Anyway.... you guys sure are getting "all excited" for my Iowa Spree. :b2t: Gee, sorry, I didn't think a little story and some info about Iowa Sprees was Hijacking your thread. Somebody was trying to get some more top speed by removing the thrust washer and squeezing the pulley halves tog...

Re: carbon build up

A set of small round wire brushes chucked into a drill motor works well for an assembled motor. As mentioned before, do not damage the piston or rings but if you just move the piston to BDC you will not have that issue.

Re: 1986 Variator, and corresponding drive pulley

Sprees do NOT have a variator and do NOT shift. As to the noise, you caused it so go back in an fix it.

Re: carbon build up

Sure, use a better quality oil and you won't have the problem to start with. To remove the carbon, remove the exhaust and crap it out of the port. I'll bet he meant "SCRAPE"... as I'm not sure how to crap it out.... :woot: LOL! Hey spell check only works if the word is spelled wrong, not ...

No, the Spree will handle 290 pounds forever, at least mine has for the last 18 years.

Re: Possible Clogged Pilot Jet 1984 Spree??

Hi everyone, this is my very first post here. I have a 1984 Spree that I can't get to idle correctly. With the float bowl removed from the carb, shining a flashlight through the pilot hole, should you definitively be able to see a speck of light? Is the hole a straight shot from top to bottom? Pics...

Re: Iowa Spree Lands in New Mexico

I've never seen a Iowa Spree that was actually registered in Iowa. Judging by the rust on the muffler, etc., it would make sense to just go ahead and replace the main bearings and seals now. Like any 2-stroke that has been stored "open"[no plug], it will only be a matter of time til the b...

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

Wikispreedia says 1 1/2 turns out for an 86' . Did I miss something? It is referring to the 'air screw' as the 'mixture screw', as it states the 'throttle stop screw' is the 'idle speed screw', which is adjusted for the best idle setting. I referred to it as the 'intake screw' in my post. ( Yes, yo...

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

I recently cleaned the entire carburetor, and I put the intake screw at 1.5 turns. It was running like crap, until I cleaned the carburetor. I've tried doing the plug chop, but I am unsure if it's good, or too lean. It's definitely not too rich, as there is no oil on it. I bought a brand new plug, ...

Re: 1986 NQ50 Overheating

Seizures, especially soft seizes are not caused by overheats. They are caused by lean jetting or not enough oil and the overheat and oil thing almost always cause hard seizures that require rebuilds. Plug chop.
