Re: 85 Spree - Not enough power to turn over fast enough

Alright well bad news the starter has 11 splines which is the later version. Rats! Question now is, is it better to get a 10T starter and possibly get a dud, or find a bendix thats compatible with this starter? That’s assuming the newer starter/bendix combo will work in the older 85 model. It only ...

Re: Spree carb is junk?

Another thing I always thought was unrelated. The tail light will fade out once in a while. And for some reason it will only kickstart with a full battery. .. any ideas.. thanks man 'Full' battery voltage should have no impact on the spark, as the CDI has no battery connection. That said, some memb...

Re: 85 Spree - Not enough power to turn over fast enough

Anyone know if this washer #6 in the diagram is the one that holds the bendix together or separate? It does look to be a unique part. The washer on the Bendix is counterbored to house the retaining ring on the Bendix shaft. But the parts fiche description is WASHER, PLAIN (10mm) 90401-437-000. A ph...

Re: Honda OEM carb info collection

Photo setup to verify idle jet
Indoors, I use a bright flashlight, to view the pilot passage, and it's still relatively dim.
Using a camera can help make the light visible, note the camera setting of 1/6s, ISO400.

Re: Honda OEM carb info collection

Ed: I reposted this from local files as it was in the wiki and not accessible until recently. perhaps this should be deleted? 03/17/2021 b]Pilot Jet - Orifice Open Verification by Light[/b] One method mentioned on this board for verifying the pilot is at least 'not plugged' is by light. Note: Start...

Re: Honda OEM carb info collection

Pilot Jet orifice measurement (approximate) Using a set of pin gauges (seller says accurate to "-0.0002") I found anything up to 0.013" would pass through, and the 0.014" would not 0.013" is about .33mm, The 'nogo pin' at 0.014" is about 0.356mm The 0.013" pin is ...

Re: Honda OEM carb info collection

Do you think there is a big change between a restricted and an unrestricted emulsion tube?
Sorry - still something I'd also like to know. I have not yet had a emulsion tube from a carb with the id tag from a restricted scooter to compare.

Re: 85 Spree - Not enough power to turn over fast enough

So I counted 65teeth on the bendix which seems to be correct. Waiting on getting the starter back from the repair shop to count those splines.
Good you have the correct Bendix for your model. I hope your starter is 10T and is soon back in shape :thumbwink:

Re: 85 Spree - Not enough power to turn over fast enough

I counted the teeth on the bendix larger gear three times and got 66 every time Don't know why yours has an extra tooth. I'm pretty sure years ago we verified tooth count on both 65T and 63T Bendix assemblies. -- One more time -- I grabbed the first eBay posting with an 84-85 Spree bendix photo tha...

Re: 85 Spree - Not enough power to turn over fast enough

The 10T starter/65T Bendix on 84-85 Spree sounds right
So does 11T starter /63T on 86-87 Spree.

It may be ok, but I never verified an 86-87 starter & Bendix work in a 84-85 Spree.

Re: 85 Spree - Not enough power to turn over fast enough

Has anyone ever confirmed that mismatch of starter splines to bendix causes this same issue Yes - I worked with a member who had a mis-matched starter to bendix issue. His thread started with the issue of the starter dis-engaging during starting attempts. We confirmed the already known 10T/11T star...

Re: My Honda elite has no spark!

Assuming it is something really simple, do you have a good strong earth (with paint scraped off any contact points) from the battery to the motor? x2 BTW - In your first photo, there is no starter motor present. The only OEM ground connection for the engine is a green wire with a ring terminal that...

Re: 85 Spree - no turn signals

Update: put new bulbs in front. Right signals now blink on both sides, left rear will come on and not blink, no light on left front. Flasher makes a funny ‘bing’ sound when the left signal switch is turned on. Do they fail on just one side? When there is only 1 of 2 lamps that light up, even a good...

Re: 85 Spree - Not enough power to turn over fast enough

Will not turn over with the starter, using jumper cables directly to the starter. Bendix engages the camshaft gear and winds down. It sounds as if the starter does turn (else the Bendix would not engage). When it winds down during cranking, it can be due to the crankshaft rotating faster than the s...

Re: 85 Spree - no turn signals

Any idea if this is potentially a cause of no signals? Since you have horn and tail light working, there should also be +12v available to the flasher. There's many ways to start troubleshooting, I'd start with easy access stuff Since you already have the rear plastic off, check for +12v on each sid...
