Re: 1994 Honda SR Elite KickStarter Assembly

Greetings: Slop in the kicker develops eventually. The hole through the aluminum cover wears more quickly than the steel kickstarter shaft. Sloppy kicking - failing to engage the mechanism before kicking DOWN - WithOUT letting the lever come up a little - postpones wear. If you can find the replacem...

Re: Elite SB50 Gas tank de-rusting

Greetings: I can't see vinegar harming plastic. Tap-tapping with a hand-held impact screwdriver might get the gauge off? https://www.amazon.com/Powerbuilt-Extractor-Slotted-Phillips-Screwdriver/dp/B004QO9FK2/ref=asc_df_B004QO9FK2/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312003160272&hvpos=&...

Re: 2001 Honda Elite Newbs 1st Scooter

Greetings: My Polini worked best with a #90 main. I'd advise AGAINST drilling the pilot. As long as you have Noisy's filter well-oiled, the small-ish pilot isn't an issue with the sport cylinders. Do get a temp gauge and confirm this holds true with Malossi Iron as well. I recommend 9.1:1 gears. Tak...

Re: 2001 Honda Elite S (De-restricted): Aftermarket Carb Suggestions Anyone?

Greetings: Unless you are willing to change the intake manifold and run a pod filter, there isn't much that fits in the stock carburetor's snug surroundings. It was about 15 years ago when I found an Amal/Arreche 17.5mm carb that did fit the stock intake and box. You could try searching that with Ho...

Re: nq50 very cold

Greetings: Yes it's probably normal. What you're witnessing is the fuel's phase change from liquid to vapor. It is an endothermic process akin to why the paint can you're holding gets colder when you spray a long time. Add humidity and you can see the condensation on the carb and intake. It's a prob...

Re: '85 Spree randomly died

Greetings: The assertion that the scooter got faster, briefly, before dying supports the hypothesis that a vacuum leak formed. It could result from a crank end seal, but there are lots of other places where such a leak can arise, starting with the rubber from the airbox going all the way to the exha...

Re: 1985 aero 50 big bore kit not cranking

Greetings:

Yes, Honda started all their new 1985s right after assembly.
How hard is it to spin at the front pulley? No binding or catching?
Any reason to suspect too much oil on top of the piston - enthusiastic over-use of assembly lube?

Re: 1997 honda 50 access panel

Greetings:

Yes. The AF05 version had the plug vertical in the center and was accessed through this hatch. The AF16 moved the plug angled and installed from behind. (If you have skinny monkey hands...). So they sealed the plastic pet carrier with a giant rivet.

Re: 1985 aero 50 big bore kit not cranking

Greetings: No kickstarter on a stock 1985. You can install the '86-'87 cover and the outer sheave with the castle nubs if the parts can be found. Tough nowadays. If you have a multi-tester, see that the battery has at least 12.8 volts or more. Charge it if you can, but these batteries won't take a c...

Re: Official NS50F thread

Greetings:

Yes of course I meant the NS. But it's eight years later, liquid cooling ostensibly means more power, perhaps a few more pounds, and they go with a Drum?! Not curious ?!? Maybe cost was a factor, but if I owned an NS I'd think about converting to disc if only for the Profile.
